Page 1 of Exorcist Picture Quallity

i`m pretty new to the dvd game and have just bought The Exorcist ( region 2) and am very disapointed with the picture quality. i.e. chapter 19 where father Damien has gotten drunk and has been laid on the bed just as the other priest ( cant remember his name ) has left the room it cuts back to damien on the bed the quality of the picture is appalling ( bottom left ) is this what is commonly called an artifact?
there are a few other examples in the rest of the film but this is by far the worst.
has anybody else noticed this or is it just me? have i got a copy of the original pressing before warners re-mastered the disc?
As you can imagine i am very disapointed with this as it is one of my favorite films . I was under ( obviously misguided ) impression that dvd quality was second to none

i dont have your version but i do have region 1 the version you`ve never seen and the quallity seemed to be ok

it`s an Eclipse 595 connected to a toshiba 28wd93b widescreen pro-logic tv via a gold plated scart to scart lead. Iv`e had no other problems and picture quality is usually excellent particularly on Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me. is it the disc ? T.V ?or Player?

Chances are it`s the disc.

that`s what i thought but going to check it out on a friends computer ( dont know anyone else with a dvd player) if it`s still the same going to take it back and buy the region 1 version . the quality of region 1 discs seem better than region 2
