Anchorman

HD462 (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 8th September 2004, 19:54

I`ve just come back from a preview screening of Anchorman at our local Vue cinema. I don`t normally take much of a techie view of films, I just watch them for the enjoyment. But reading other posts about print quality etc, I took more notice today to see what people mean.

I guess this film is what people call a bad transfer. There were loads of black and white artefacts popping up on the screen all the time, especially in the early part of the film. They were very noticeable, even to my non-critical eye. I see what people mean now.

As for the film, I won`t say what it was about in case people want to go and see it. All I will say, is I`m glad the tickets were free !! :D

It had the odd laugh in it, but most of the stuff was just unfunny. We can`t have been the only ones who thought so, as a couple walked out part way through, followed by four more about twenty minutes later.

Compared to Dodgeball which we saw last month, there was no comparison, even though they`re both the zany, over the top type of comedy. Ben Stiller even had a small appearance, and was good, even though he was only on screen for probably less than a minute. The other guy, I forget his name, out of Dodgeball was in it too, and played a decent part, considering what he had to work with.

One to miss I think. :)

Just saw this today and thought it was fairly good. My favorite bit had to be when...
SPOILER:
Jack`s Black`s character punted the dog off the bridge :D
Agreed about the good cameo by Stiller, for a minute I thought his character was going to say "welcome to globo gym"

Yeah Dodgeball is way funnier but I think you`re being a bit harsh saying its one to miss :o

Depends on your tastes I guess. But going on that the 4 of us weren`t too impressed and six people walking out, I think you can say it`s not a cert that everyone will like it.

There was a review in hte movies section of our local paper the other night, so I guess their reviewer was in when we were. They only gave it 4/10 and said more or less the same as I did.

People will make their own minds up if they go, that was only my opinion, as any review is. :)

The audience who I watched it with seemed to laugh quite a lot throughout the film. I wouldn`t say it was that bad that too many people will walk out, but horses for courses eh? :)

I actually thought it was just as funny as dodgeball, if not funnnier.

Good to have 2 good comedies out within such a short period of time.

I saw this on Saturday and thought it was a great film and as good as Dodgeball if not better. I cant understand how you can enjoy dodgeball and not like anchorman. I cant wait to get this on DVD especially as there is meant to be enough outtakes to have a whole new film as shown by the fact that parts of the trailer wernt in the film.Me and my mates laughed all the way through this film but there were people in the cinema with us who didnt laugh once which I was amazed at but it does depend on your sense of humour!

Appartenly the Region 1 DVD release will be available to own in numerous editions from the 28th December. Firstly, there will be an extended edition of the film, which will introduce around ten minutes of additional footage. Details on extra material have yet to be released. A gift set will also be available from the same day. This will include the extended edition of the film, along with another feature length film entitled Wake Up Ron Burgundy. A Ron Burgundy`s Month to View Journal will also be included. Finally, the theatrical cut of the film will be available too. I think I will be getting the giftset with the extra feature length film!
