Page 1 of X-files DVD boxes question

Can someone tell me what M-Lock is in relation the X-files dvd sets? Just looking at them on Play and see they are a lot cheaper than they used to be.

I could be wrong, but I think its a box that holds several disks, not quite as thick as a VHS box (looks like a thick amaray) and has the hinged flaps inside to hold the disks. The reissue of the complete Blackadder is in a big amaray that holds all the disks rather than the old fold out digipack (although its one of those annoying ones that you have to take out disks 1 and 2 to get to disk 3 as they overlap)

looks to be what I thought it was.... Im guessing its cheaper to produce than a card digipack hence the price difference...just as the reg 2+4 cd wow band of brothers is cheaper than most places in the write up it states its the `amaray version` not a digipack

oh , ok thanks. I have the first 6 seasons in the digipacks but they were too expensive to keep buying.

I love the BoB tin. No ones allowed to touch it in case they scratch it or something. :D

Beware that the R2 set of season 9 has a 90 minute documentary-"The Making of The Truth" missing from the extras selection.
Of less importance,season 8 and 9 have some ROM games missing on R2

This is just what I`m needing to know. What`s the difference between the UK and the US releases of the X Files? I`ve been buying the US releases through eBay as and when I can afford them but I`ve spotted some X Files boxes in town that look identical, at the bargain price of £19.99. (These aren`t the new issues in the thinner boxes but the older ones with the fold-out disc store.) I`m a little sad and want all the extras but I`m worried about missing out if I buy the wrong set. I`ve read that the Asian issue (and the Australian ones) aren`t of such good quality and have stuff missing. Can anyone confirm or deny these rumours? Also, is there a difference between the boxed sets that say Collectors` Edition` and those that don`t? Thanks.

I think the versions you have are classed as `Collectors Editions` whereas the new cheaper releases are not. I have the Collectors Edition of Season 1 but the new M-Lock boxes of Seasons 2-6 as I am not bothered about the extras.

Yep, you`re right, my boxes do say Collectors Edition and, so far, I have all the extras. I don`t think that I`ll go for the new M-lock issues if they don`t have the extras - I like stuff like the commentaries - they add a new dimension.

However, I`m not sure if there`s a difference between the UK Region 2 boxes and the US Region 1 boxes. The bargain Collectors Edition I`ve spotted is probably the UK box and I`m so tempted but I don`t want to miss out on those intriguing extras if they are not on the UK edition. I`ll try to investigate further but I was hoping that some of you guys out there would know if there was a difference between the two versions. The shop where I`ve seen them won`t do returns so I need to be sure. Failing that, it`ll be back to eBay and searching the US site.

Extra Features wise there is no difference between the original R2 foldout sets and the re-released sets in the M-Lock packaging as the discs contained in the sets are identical, same applies to the R4 releases, they are identical as the discs are the same, its only the packaging that has been changed.

Differences between the R1 and R2 sets can be found at www.dvdcompare.net and the Asian Boxsets you find on eBay which are extremly cheap are most likely bootlegs as I have looked on many R3 sites and cant find any trace of The X-Files being officially available and listing on eBay which state `Region Free` are a dead give away they are pirate copies.

Although I haven`t listened to them, there are commentaries on the M-Lock box sets together with all sorts of extra features. The packaging is actually a lot better IMO as the M-Lock boxes are very sturdy and hold the discs well - the fold out boxes always strike me as flimsy and I`m never sure if a disc will stay in once I`ve folded the box out.
