Unreleased DVDs

welchmi (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 9th August 2001, 15:27

Hi,

Is there any sites or ways in which to purchase as yet unreleased dvds?
i.e. films that maybe have just been released in uk cinemas?
If so is it adviseable or should i stay well clear?

Thanks........

These are commonly referred to as "Silvers" and are illegal, to say the least.

Quality can range from direct transfers from Laserdisc in the Far East, to shady Del Trotter type affairs where you can make out a few blotches on the screen and are generally VCDs made up to look like DVDs (ie the same magical 5inch disc).

Avoid like the plague.

Please also note, fellow posters, that URLs for Silvers that are posted on subsequent threads will be deleted as that is a breach of the Forum rules.

And be warned, Universal have started to take legal action for copyright infringement against anyone buying pirate copies of their movies (they have recently been watching ebay)

some films are available in region 1 version on play247.com before they reach the uk. I think `down to earth` is available to buy there while it is currently showing on uk cinema screens.

but if you purchase illegal pirate copies of films prior to their proper release on dvd you will see an inferior copy and giving money to crooks.

The Dish and Ginger Snaps are available from oz sites if you fancy either of those. 3000 Miles from Graceland is available from Future Entertainment. I don`t think that`s been in the cinemas yet. These a kosher. You need a multi-region player though.
