Squad Based Movies

Riggs (Elite) posted this on Friday, 16th February 2007, 13:51

Can anyone think of any decent `squad based` movies? I got to thinking about Rainbow 6, the book on which the R6 games were based (I guess), and how cool it would be to have a film based on a squad of people, rather than a pair. I guess there must already be some films out there but I`m struggling to think of any decent ones. I watched SWAT last week which was okay but can anyone think of any better ones?

There was some poor Navy Seals one with Micheal Bien if I recall, but that aside are we allowed to suggest Aliens or Predator? :)

Not a movie, but the Band of Brothers mini series.

Bloomin hell chaps that was quick.

Have seen all of the films mentioned but;

Aliens and Predator - Both excellent movies but really was trying to find something `special forces`, `Hostage rescue` or the like.

Black Hawk Down - again excellent movie but just too many people in the squad (might watch it again tonight though)

Navy Seals - I did enjoy this when I saw it a loooong time ago but I`m not sure how it`s aged.

EDIT - Band of Brothers - watched it and thought it was great - struggled a bit to put some of the survivors together with the actor who played them but overall very enjoyable (in a holy s*** I`m glad I didn`t have to fight type way)

I`ve thought it would make a great film shortly after reading the book a few years ago, disappointed they haven`t made any Clarke films either; Willem Dafoe would be great...

The original Rainbow 6 game was based on the book, but with most of the story left out.

Dirty Dozen as already mentioned.
Kelly Heroes
Battleground which is the story of 101st Airborne during the Battle of the Bulge. They did a couple of episodes on it in BoB, spending winter in the forests around Bastogne.

You could also try The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far.

What about a little known film called Who Dares Wins? About the SAS and stars Lewis Collins from the Professionals, and then you could head for the Jack Ryan movies.
