:( Please help someone..........in the old days of PAL versus NTSC ordinary DVDs, PAL had the superior picture quality (625 lines). Now with BLU RAY, is there any difference in picture quality between between American discs and UK ones?? Confused. artmcclin

The HD formats (720p/1080i/1080p) are universal, so there will be no difference between the UK or US discs in terms of picture quality.
However, you need to be careful that any discs you might buy are playable in your machine (some have region protection on them).

Just as in `the old days`, it`s not as cut and dry as more resolution is better. There were plenty of 480i NTSC DVDs that looked better than the 576i PAL variants. Same goes for HD material. Even though they`re (generally) all 1080/24p, there can be quality variations across regions depending on who releases a particular title or differences in encoding (Watchmen being a recent example). It`s always advisable to check out reviews before buying.

Or if you don`t give a s*** about 3D films or have a spare grand or so lying around for a new TV on top. That would be me then. How are they going to get around the fact that the PS3 only has HDMI 1.3 though?

I`ve got to ask, why on earth did you go watch Avatar then, as that`s the main selling point?

As Mark Kermode said on his last podcast with regards to 3D.

Nah, the CGI is the main selling point, and that also works in 2D.
