Can someone help ripping a short clip (or screenshots) from a Blu-ray disc?

RJS (undefined) posted this on Thursday, 22nd July 2010, 12:09

I`m trying to make a comparison between upscaled DVD using various methods and Blu-ray, now whilst I have no problems ripping and screenshotting DVD, I can`t do the Blu-ray as I have no PC drive.

Anyone have one and a recent major blockbuster title, plus the knowledge and time to help us in this experiment? :)

Doesn`t David rip blu-ray shots for his reviews?

I didn`t know if he did that or whether he got them from the PR company!

What film do you want?

What have you got! Something big and blockbustery, like 2012? Watchmen? Something like that?

Well I have Clash of the Titans in the BD drive at the moment, so here`s a shot from that. Not a reference level image (bit soft and filtered), but still pretty good. I have 10GB of 1080p BD captures on my HDD though, so I have quite a bit to chose from if you want something else.

*Edit* Hold on, did you need both the DVD and BD screen capture?

I can take screenshots from Blu-ray Discs and the ones I use in my reviews are taken by me, not supplied by the PR firm. If there are any specific ones you want, just send me a PM/e-mail with a title and approximate time and I`ll see what I can do. The screenshots in my Avatar review were taken straight from the disc.

Of course, they are the highest quality when taken as bitmaps -- I have to do convert them into slightly lower quality JPEGs in order to upload them onto MyReviewer. I could drop them into Photobucket and send you the links.

Heh I don`t have CotT, reviews put me off. :/ Not got Avatar yet either.

Ideally I`m looking for a few seconds of video footage, which I can then capture the same of from a DVD.

Either of you know how to do that in blu-ray?

Yeah, but it`s a long and involved process that`s a right PITA. It involves remuxing the video/audio in another format and it takes ages to rip films, although I suppose if one did a title with PiP the m2ts files would be smaller and the ripping would take less time... Even so it`s a fairly involved process that requires a lot of different tools.

What are you using it for?

I wouldn`t even know where to begin when it comes to ripping video; I`m not even sure if I could do it.
