Haywire.. Jeebus Gawd it`s bad...

Not long back from a screening and I was really looking forward to it but for a result we have:

Crap acting (Ewan McGregor with an accent worse than the one in BHD)
Continuity errors (Fight scenes with no blood etc. then suddenly the blood appears in small areas on faces etc.?? Ireland with a 4G mobile broadband network? (last one may be true but I thought they were 3G like us))
Crap cinematography (start off with that shaky cam method that can be used to good effect used exceptionally badly in this, scenes with the lead actress` head in the foreground whilst a burning coal or log fire in the background causing all sorts of flare over her)
Crap score (for what there was of it, most of it was almost silence with just sound effect or talking but when there WAS music it blared!)
Crap storyline (although to be fair this could have been done much better with the right people behind it)
Miscast parts (Again, McGregor, he was crap and definitely didn`t suit the role played)
Terrible choreography (Watch the fight scene with McGregor, I`ve seen better from a playground or university video)

Add to that I must have been near a vent or aircon outlet as my nose kept running and I was pretty cold to the point I put my jacket on so this film had absolutely NO redeeming features for me.

Well, except that it was a free screening via RBS, but that`s 2 hours of my life I want back and I wouldn`t even consider the cost of the diesel for the 10 mile round trip worthwhile spending on it!

Conclusion: It was scheitte (as anyone who knows me on Facebolk already knows :D)

That`s interesting because the critics were really positive on this one, and I was thinking of going to see it as MMA star Gina Carano plays the lead.

Definitely won`t go and see if shaky-cam is in action, though; that technique has ruined action moves, possibly forever.

There`s not a huge amount of it but it does have some near the beginning.
Obviously the intent was to show the rush and fervour etc. but it just looked like one of the guys on Sky`s cop shows running behind someone with a camera.

Lead actress does pretty well to be fair to her but I`d say almost all of the rest of the cast don`t fit the roles they`re playing.

Could just be me though but there were a fair few people at this screening and I didn`t hear one good word in the mutterings as they left (as a matter of fact I`m pretty sure I saw two people leave after about 35 minutes)

I have zero tolerance for shaky-cam, so I won`t be going to the cinema or buying the DVD. I want to see some action, not just hear the sound effects while the cameraman acts like he`s having an epileptic fit.

This is something I could rant about all day...

Let me just explain this more in case I have the wrong term and could end up ruining what could be the worst purchase and two hours of your life ;)

The parts I refer to are a street chase on foot. The cameraman is obviously running behind the actors and it isn`t a steady-cam rig so it`s bouncing about all over the place as he runs.

Am I describing the same thing as you think?
(And it`s still scheitte)

Basically, yes.

I always use The Dark Knight as an example. In the fight scenes, you couldn`t see any of what was going on, because it was shot/directed to have super-quick angle changes, and the camera moving "with" the fight, implying that an earth-shaking battle was taking place. But because you could see any punches thrown, the only way you knew what was happening was because of the sound effects.

This drives me up the wall. It`s a film, and they are actors. I want to see them act! The camera should only be shaking if there`s an earthquake, or if we`re seeing from the point of view of a character who is on a bouncy castle, or something.

Mark Kermode just gave it a good review and made it his film of the week.

Pretty much a guaranteed watch now. I can`t wait!

I know pretty much nil about the technicalities of how ot make a movie.
I know very little about editing, although I know a wee bit.
I`m not one for being able to describe how characters build up or get you emotionally attached to them.

I know many of you here are (hence you are "reviewers" of differing material) but in that cinema I was in there was probably the biggest crowd I`ve ever seen at a "freebie" screening.

I never heard ONE good word from anyone on the way out.
I`ve never seen so many people itching to leave but obviously had held off to see if it was worth it (I personally wanted to leave after about ten minutes but thought I was being harsh) and one couple did leave after about 35 minutes.

And you always hear at least one person saying something like "well that was good" etc. to their partner.... my friend and myself heard absolutely nothing positive from anyone but a few comments similar to mine.

Go waste a few quid on a ticket, get some popcorn (actually I was very surprised that the biggest popcorn was £4.70 so that`s one positive cos I love the stuff!), buy some drinks (or sneak in a wee bottle of yer favourite from Asda or Tesco in yer jacket pocket ;) ) and set aside the required two hours.
You`re forewarned so you won`t be disappointed LOL. :D

WARNING: MISLEADING THREAD TITLE.

I was nearly put off watching this film, simply from the thread title but I had an afternoon spare, film had got good reviews and this was on at the time. Glad I watched it, it`s not that often that you have a decent physical female lead and she did well in her first role. Don`t get me wrong, it doesn`t have the style and pace of a Bourne film and  is not as complex in it`s sub-plots as Tinker Tailor.... but Haywire is just as good as any of the recent Liam Neeson films and I would say better than Hanna.

Guess we`ll agree to disagree there then mate, and as I said so did almost everyone at the screening I attended.
What was your opinion of the fight scenes? Especially the McGregor one.
(don`t want to say too much in case I add spoilers for anyone who does want to see it)
