Page 1 of True romance - Uncut????
DVDs & Films Forum
I`ve just watched my brand spanking new copy of True romance, and I`ve noticed that it is far more bloody, and violent than my old VHS (spit!) copy.
Has anyone else noticed this, or do I just not remember it that well.
On this version, the scene with James Gandolfini and Patricia Arquete was far more violent, and ended differently, with her shooting him several times before beating the s*** out of him with a shotgun.
The final hotel scene was also far more bloody, and also ended differently, with Patricia Arquete shooting Chris Penn. I can remember it being the italian bloke that shot him originally!
Can someone explain these strange events to me, as both DVD and VHS versions claimed to be `directors cut, including scenes not shown at the cinema`.
I`m not complaining, it was great as ever, I`m just curious!
Thanks!!
Mathew
It may be the mind playing tricks, but the DVD is the most complete version available, as there are indeed scenes not shown in the cinema, and some extra violence put back in. It does alter your perception of one of the characters too....
which region do you have 1 or 2??????
Region 2, why is there a difference in the regions?
The R2 UK version is the full length uncut version.
It`s quite common for peoples minds to be tricked in to thinking that extra footage exists when it doesn`t (same thing happens in Reservior Dogs)
I`m fairly certain that the original version released here WAS cut.
When True Romance was released in the UK again, is was STILL cut. At that point I bought the UNCUT Australian R4 version. I presume the very latest R2 release is finally uncut too.
The additional footage is largely violence - Patricia Arquette giving the guy a real working over, and also the scene where Gary Oldman is shot in the crotch. I think the final scene has a bit more action in too.
There must be a site with all this on - the Melon Farmers perhaps ?

The original VHS version is cut. Where as the DVD version, for some reason is un cut. Another example of the f**ked up censorship rules we have in this country.
