Page 1 of HL2 v Doom 3

Just wondered what you guys think of the comparison between the two games?

For me, Doom 3 offers better graphics and atmosphere, and I personally enjoy it more (being a UT2K4 FPS-type gamer). I think HL2 is too linear, the graphics are somewhat average, but the innovativeness of the game is very good. Makes you think more than Doom 3, and of course it`s not dark everywhere. :)

Anyone else played both and have an opinion?

Doom 3 smokes pole compared to HL2. and to be honest i dont think the graphics are `better`. On a meaty rig HL2 looks very realistic, plus it includes a fully realised physics engine which means unparalleld interaction with your environment. Doom3 on the other hand is nice and shiny but theres not a lot to see or do.

I wasnt a very big fan of D3 to be honest. Thats not to say HL2 isnt without its flaws though. i dont think as a story it will stand up until HL3 is released. Having said that, its not as blatant as Halo2. Now THAT was an anticlimactic ending.

HL2 p***es all over D3 from a great height. Its the best game of the year, and surpasses anything D3 throws at you. The first level on Doom 3 is great, but everything from then on is a bore. Having completed both HL2 offers the best game by far. And for me, the graphics are far better than the plastic looking Doom 3. I loved every minute of Half Life 2; the quality of the game never drops. The level design is awesome, the sfx and music are great, the enviroment is far more interactive thanks to the grav gun and the driving levels are brilliantly done. There is barely anything wrong with the game for me, and it sets the bar so high that I doubt there is going to be anything as good for quite a while. At least until Half Life 2.

BTW, agreed the story in HL2 is pants, but I barely follow the stories anyway. And its still loads better than D3`s! :D

No contest! HL2 all the way. I`ve completed it several times over, individual battles etc dozens of time. It`s the best game I`ve played in a long, long time.

D3 was pants. I got bored after the first couple of levels and sold it.

Farcry was much, much better, but still not as good as HL2. Gets my vote of Game of the Year for me by a long way.

HL2 is running with max gfx quality in 1024...reasonable FPS, my system isn`t exactly bad...

I`m very surprised that you guys all think HL2 has better graphics...I must be biased, I guess.

Playing HL2 at the minute. Absolutely amazing :D :D
After the (for me) overly long mudskipper `level` it just gets better and better. :D
The first time I wacked a zombie with a breeze block blasted with my Gravity gun was ace. And I still don`t tire of it. :D The physics engine is fantastic. Swinging trailers from the crane :o :D Flinging flammable barrels with the Gravity gun. So enjoyable!
Just reached Nova Prospekt (sp).
One thing, some things in the game (some radios, pipes etc.) have a white colour to them - like they`re highlighted. Does it mean anything?

Doom3 got boring. :(

Yeah it means you need to upgrade your drivers Ste. It was the same on my brothers PC until he upgraded his drivers. :D
