when you say "purple backed" do you mean original games (the first batch of ps2 games where all on purple backed discs) or copies ie, bootlegs.

Sounds like the cd-rom side of reading things on the laser has slipped out of sync. If it was not under warranty you could of adjust the pot for it but as it is I would take it back and get a normal PS2 (if they`re still available?) as the slimlines have been nothing but trouble from what I have heard.

Is that the time? Give me a minute and I will be there when I finish on the comp!

My dad has a slimline PS2 and has had no problems. I was actually thinking about getting rid of my normal PS2 for the new slimline one.

Only a thought....

There was a lot of normal PS2`s returned due to overheating problems causing failures.

It was found recently in a survey, that if you left the normal PS2 in the horizontal position and did not use the official optional stand to keep it vertical, it lasts a lot longer without overheating prob`s.

Maybe its the same with the slimline model, ie, keep it horizontal not vertical ?

Owned a ps2 since it first came out
I only had read disc error before
never overheating problems even though ps2 was turned on at least 2 hours a session (with a few sessions a day)
even had a pro evo tourney with ps2 on more than 12 hours straight
perhaps I`m just lucky?
