Page 1 of My xbox won`t work on my tv
Gaming and Consoles Forum
Sorry about the vague nature of this email, if anyone seems to know anything about this problem i can get more precise info.
I bought an xbox a while back and am using it on a very old tv in my living with no problem. Now i want to use it in my bedroom on a brand new (well maybe a year old) Sanyo. This Sanyo tv has a scart lead at the back and it works perfectly with my dvd player.
However when i plug my xbox scart lead into it and hit the AV button on my tv remote all i get is a slightly fuzzy black and white image from the xbox.
i don`t claim to be the most technically minded person, but i have looked through both the xbox manual and the tv manual to no avail. I have also pressed all the buttons on the tv remote in a random manner in the misguided hope that i`m simply on the wrong channel. No luck.
I have also tried some connections at the front of the tv (one for audio and one for visual) and i get exactly the same result
So to summarize, the xbox is working, the scart connection on the tv is working, the tv is working, but the whole lot together is truly less than the sum of their parts.
Can anyone help?
It sounds like your tv doesnt support 60hz mode. My brother had a s***ty old tv that wouldnt play some games as they were 60hz (same as Japan, i think) but would play others. But yours is fairly new, but the symptoms sound exactly the same.
If youre TV doesnt have a 60hz mode, Youve basically got 2 choices. Get a new TV or move the xbox back.

There is a setting in the xbox settings where you can select PAL60hz, do you have this set because if so turn it off and it will display everything has PAL50hz.
oh yeah. make that 3 choices......*fumbles for D`OH Smiley*

Thanks guys, i`ll check that out tonight.
Really frustrating though. I figured with a pretty new tv i`d have no problem hooking up my xbox to it. Amazing that Dixons still sell crappy tvs like that.
Hey, went home for lunch and i switched off that PAL 60 HZ option. The picture stays fuzzy and black and white.
I guess i`m boned, right?
Thinking about it, my Sony TV does this. Its got loads of different variations of scart and RGB input and some of them make the picture look fuzzy. To be perfectly honest, I dont really understand why it does that (something like having to select the input for each scart channel or something), but pressing the second scart button a few times sorts it out.
So aside from trying all the combinations of scart inputs, yeah, your boned ;)

RE: My xbox won`t work on my tv
if your using the composite cable that came with the Xbox the picture will be slightly fuzzy because all the picture detail is in the yellow part. The Scart adaptor block dosen`t improve the picture quality any.
How fuzzy is fuzzy? unbearable.
I wonder if your TV can`t handle a NTSC signal has it been Chipped and left in NTSC output mode?
You could buy a official RGB lead from Argos and plug it into AV1 at the back of the TV if you have no luck you could try to take it back - better still possibly borrow one of a mate
good luck

I got it working!!! It`s almost certainly a novice mistake on my part, but on the off chance there are any more morons out there the problem was simple.
It was a sanyo tv and i had to go into the settings mode of the tv and switch of "SVTM mode" (or something like that, those letters are almost certainly all wrong) and then the picture just switched over to being in colour. Sweet.
Now i can play my xbox in bed with a joint. How the long summer nights will just fly by.
