Page 1 of Special Reserve has gone bust!!
Gaming and Consoles Forum
Hi,
Just got a letter saying Special reserve has gone into liquidation, checked on their website and this confirmed they have indeed gone bust. The only problem is I had a Xbox 360 on order with them and I payed for it in full when I placed the order!
While I`m disappointed I wont be getting a Xbox360 I`m more concerned about the 300 quid at this point. Does anyone know what action I should take?

RE: Special Reserve has gone bust!!
Citizen`s Advice perhaps? Other than that, I`m stumped.
I used to buy all my games from Special Reserve mail order (and Gameplay) back in the days of the Playstation/Saturn/N64. They undercut the high street by a few quid, which was great if you lived on pocket money! Although, you did have to cough up for a membership (about £7) to buy from them. Greedy swines...
Funnily enough, I still have a stub in my chequebook from when I bought Final Fantasy VIII from them 5-6 years ago. Needless to say, I haven`t really used my chequebook much... ;)
More recently, I used to have a browse of their site now and then, and I was shocked by how completely blown out of the water they were by other game retailers.
Oh yeah... Ken is a badass dude!

RE: Special Reserve has gone bust!!
Please tell me you paid by credit card????? If you paid by credit card then the credit card company is liable to refund your cash in the event of the company going bust - it`s to do with the technicalities of how the transaction works but its a great protection for consumers and applys to all consumer purchases between £100 and £30000 (figures taken from an OFT site but unsure how up to date). It also covers the product not being of satisfactory quality, not delivered etc, so it is always a good idea to pay be credit card if possible.
There has been debate over whether this applies to non uk purchases but I think Specialreserve was UK based - yes?
This protection does not apply to Debit cards - Switch/Visa Delta etc. If you paid by Debit card contact your bank asap to check if they can cancel the payment, but if it has been made then you could find yourself at the bottom of a long queue of creditors after the taxman etc. Not good.
If you paid by credit card tell the card company immediately and ask about their refund procedure.
RE: Special Reserve has gone bust!!
I remember getting Amiga games from SR, back in the day when they used to charge a fiver for membership and sent out a groovy catalogue.
They staved going tits up off for a while with cheap MP3 players and DIVx players, but everyone caught up with them and that was that.
Changing their software business model didnt help either I would think.
Anyway, yeah, as has already been said, if you paid by credit card, you should be ok. If not then be prepared to join a loooooooooong list of creditors all clamouring to get their cashback.
All glory to the hypnotoad

RE: Special Reserve has gone bust!!
I paid with a debit card back in September, payment was taken long ago! I ordered with them because they`ve always been quick deliverers, wish I`d gone down to Comet now!
Will I automatically join the list of creditors or do I have to do something first, what do you think the odds are of getting a full refund?
Anyway thanks for the help, I`m glad none of you guys have got stung with this.

Wonder if this will affect Freeola aswell. Been using them for webspace and email since Special Reserve joined forces with them.
Still got a stack of Reddys from SR that I was looking to spend :(
