Sensible Soccer 2006 on console - a show of hands please....
.....from those of you who have it. I`d like to know whether you like it or not. I`m after the Xbox version myself, but there`s a seriously heated debate raging over on the Eurogamer forums about how buggy it is, which is putting me off getting it.
I`ve been playing the demo that came free with the official Xbox mag, and been really enjoying it. But either something terrible has happened in between said demo and the actual release, or a load of miserable gamers just don`t know how to have fun anymore!
Is it really so buggy? Is there a widescreen mode (as the demo appears to have)? The EGers say not. I really like the easy going gameplay of the demo. Has something indeed gone terribly wrong??
Your opinions are much appreciated, particularly if they are related to the console versions. Thanks dudes. 8)

Played it the other day briefly, for a few games. Thought it was pretty hard to score (and whats with the teams being based on about 2 seasons ago?). That aside, its okay as a budget release, but really needs to be played as multiplayer for longetivity. I can see people quickly tiring of the single player pinball.
Giggity giggity!

It`s not hard to score. You just haven`t learnt the best places to score from :p
The preset competitions/custom team mode are where it`s at in single player. The engine itself is full of exploits and the game`s blatantly not finished(what`s the deal with the international teams? Half of them simply aren`t there. Like Scotland).
None of this detracts from the game itself being fun. It does mean it`ll be a bit short-lived. Fair enough, apparently the missing teams and career mode will be included in the next release which would be enough to convince me to fork out again. Hopefully they`ll sort out the rubbish AI too.

If you want hard to score from, try frigging FIFA. I had a WC BBQ at my house this weekend, so I thought I`d get RTTWC and have a bit of a tourney. After a million 0-0 draws and a few 1-0`s we just gave up. Unless you literally tap shoot for the briefest second you sky it over, headers never, ever work (you are better off taking it down and hit it on the volley) and penalties are a f***ing nightmare. I mean, people started deliberately giving away penalties because they are so difficult to score.
Its the first fifa game ive played since 98` and I didnt realise they had managed to make the beautiful game some bloody boring.

Yep, I think the guys over on Eurogamer have been exceptionally harsh on this release. It may have a couple of bugs, but look at the state FIFA 06 was in when that was released. All that juddering down the screen, and mental AI etc. It didn`t stop the game being any good, and I can`t see it hurting Sensi too much either.
The bottom line is fun, and from what I`ve played of the demo it`s great fun. Yes, there`s a couple of bugs in the demo - such as passing back to your goalie often results in an own goal etc - but nothing game breaking. And certainly stuff they could fix for a possible sequel.
I`m going to order it I reckon. S`gotta be worth £18.

PC fans have already (a day after it was released) fixed the low camera view with a nice high and wide view. Also, the jittery camera motion has been made stable...
I`d only go for the Console version for post-pub antics or the PC version for proper play.

The AI getts a panning today on CH4 text (307?). Terrible computer selected players (you can`t select who you control), goalies diving for no reason.
BBC review (p551) (such a laugh those..) gives it 10/10..

Yeah, but when Dave Gibbon was doing the game reviews on Ceefax, they were so bad, they were good!
What is it, boy? Fire? Earthquake? Hippies?

Yeah, but my impressions after playing the demo are that the truth lies somewhere in between those scores. I can`t see how it could be a 10/10 game, unless you are a football game freak, but neither is it a 5. It`s at least a 6. At least.
Anyone can sit with any game at any time and list a load of apparently game breaking bugs. Even the most ardent PES or FIFA fan would have to admit those games are positively littered with glitches and hiccups. But because the gameplay shines through all is forgiven. I`ve ordered the Xbox version of Sensi even after all the negativity, because A) the demo is really great fun, and B) people who make anal observations about bugs often cannot see something for what it is.
Honestly, I saw someone actually post a list of all the bugs they found in the game and it made for hysterical reading. I`m playing PES4 at the mo, and I think if I were to list all the bugs I`ve come across it`d make the game sound like a right bag o` 5h1te, which it most certainly isn`t!

FWIW, I`ve got the PC version and I think it`s ace. Nothing too taxing, just a big ball of fun... 8)
