Just Cause - PS2, XBOX, PC and 360

enemyonpc (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 17th August 2006, 11:58

I`ve been reading various articles about this game over at gamespot and every screenshot or trailers posted just wets my appetite more. Out on 22nd September, this looks like the game of the year IMO. Granted i havent got an 360, but from a XBOX point of view this is gonna be large.

Nicked this bit of info from the dvd forums:

Eidos, one of the world's leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, announces first details on Just Cause™. Developed by Avalanche Studios, Sweden, Just Cause will be released on PlayStation 2, Xbox & PC.

In Just Cause, you take on the role of the flamboyant Rico Rodriguez - an undercover CIA operative specialising in regime change - as he tries to overthrow the corrupt government of San Esperito. This rogue South American island is suspected of stockpiling WMDs and it's your job to negate the threat to world peace. It could be to your advantage that this tropical paradise is about to implode as various factions vie for power - it just needs a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Just Cause offers the freedom to tackle your assignment however you want: play the island's factions off against one another; incite a rebellion among the masses; or build alliances with rebel forces and drug cartels. The incredibly detailed game world consists of 1,225 sq. miles of mountains, jungles, beaches, cities and villages which can be explored by land, sea and air. And you will have at your disposal one of the most varied and exciting array of vehicles, planes and watercraft ever seen in a video game.

Christofer Sundberg, director at Avalanche Studios says: Our overall vision for Just Cause is to create a realistic game world where players can unleash their creativity in order to bring down a regime using any means possible. We want to provide the player with close to endless opportunities to play missions, explore the world and perform stunts using land, sea and air transport.

If this game lives up to the hype (and the pictures, movies etc.) then I`ll definitely be buying it for the PC.

Although i`ll be using my XBox or possibly PC (if it`ll run on 3.1ghz, 512ram and a 9800pro) it will be interesting to the see the 8km draw distance on the PS2. Aparently the 360 version will have a 32km draw, considering the map is approx 32km2 that is impressive.

That`s if its still working by then ;) (Only joking mate)

I`ve just pre-ordered this for the PC (only £18 from Play.com and based on the previews its worth a shot).

PC demo out now...

Can`t say I`m very impressed - the graphics are OK but look dated compared to the 2 1/2 year old Far Cry. Handling is poor (especially vehicles, they feel like they`re floating above the ground), as is the combat system.

Nice idea, but really badly executed.

Weird music too... is it me or is the main menu oddly reminiscent of "Don`t Let Me Be Misunderstood"

I`ve played the PC demo a little bit this long weekend, and completely agree with Gareth above.

Controls are bad, but maybe that`s partially cos they`re designed for control pad, rather than mouse/keyboard?

A lot of 3rd person PC games these days on the back of box do say "best played with a joypad".

Driving is even worse than the driving bits in Tony Hawk underground :(
