I don`t think they will ever change this... maybe they have learned a valuable lesson, that the original and current SD DVD region encoding is really pointless and just forces people to import.

I second that advice, anything over the 32-inch would mean you moving your eyes a lot during viewing and would not be very comfortable.

Yes, and the picture quality is pretty good. Not as good as you would get from the likes of a Panasonic or Sony, but pretty darn good for the money.

Viewing angles are OK too, bt with two this is not an issue.

This is a great project, I wish I had the talent to do it.

A few things.

1. I noticed all these type cabinets are bulky and sometimes look a bit naff. Are you planning on modifying, to make one with a more modern look?

2. Also, everyone seems to mount a normal CRT screen inside the cabinet (heavy). Is there a reason for this or is it an option to mount a TFT inside?

3. Keep us all updated. I may even be interested in a flat pack. (Maybe you could sell them to Argos or MFI) :-)

I would say the first thing to try is another video cable. Try and borrow one.

It sounds like interference or one cable touching another.

Might be the way you have mounted it.

Try tightening the screws, then loosen a notch.

Or see it you can get some small rubber washers to put in there.

By all counts these are meant to be quiet and reliable.

Well, I would have initially suggested an XBox 360, but I am not 100% sure it does XVid.

The suggestion of a Mac Mini is good (I am a fanboy), but if the OP is mainly a PC person, will this be a scary suggestion or finding. It is superb, tiny, nice looking, capable of what you want and streaming from the internet is very easy.

I personally have an iMac, connected to my screen via VGA, sound via digital optical, then when I want to watch on the big screen I mirror the display.

The mini would be able to do this without the mirroring, but I would avoid the video out convertor, it is not that good a quality. Instead I would look at a DVI to VGA convertor, or straight DVI connection, if you screen will take it.

This is correct, you cannot transfer your number to another sim on the same network.

You can:

1. Get your 3 contract changed to a PAYG at the end of the contract, this keeps your number, you can then out your sim in another 3 handset.

2. Transfer (as you said) to a virgin or other PAYG, then wait 30days, then back to a 3 PAYG.

If you have a PC do what I did, I cancelled my subscription, went onto FreeSAT, connected to my PC running Media Centre and use that to record, works a treat!
