PS3 pre order... Why are they not all gone yet???
With only 15 days left until release, why have so many online and instore retailers still have them available for March 23rd?
When i got my email from Game saying that i could now pre-order (with the option of only 2 packages) i went ahead and done it within 4 minutes of receiving the e-mail.
Now looking at Game`s website you have more choice on what to have package wise and also they are not sold out yet. Unlike the Wii (which you still can`t get) and the 360, launch date was sold out well in advance and you had to wait a while for the next batch.
Have Sony made more for release date than the others or is price putting people off?
I have now cancelled my order because i`m in no rush for 1, i`m happy with my Wii and 360 and don`t think i`ll have time for another console in my life at this moment.

From what I`ve heard, the answer to those two questions is yes. But it`s still going to have a phenomenal launch, and Sony will spin it to make it look like the PS3 has cured Aids or something.

There was a similar problem in America, where they had loads on the shelves within weeks of them being released, and there were even cases of people selling on Ebay at a loss, as they had bought to sell but been caught out.
I think there are a number of reasons why
1. It`s March, so they`ve missed the christmas rush and hype.
2. The price as you said.
3. It`s the third console to be released of "the new generation", therefore some potential customers will not have bothered waiting.
4. The packages that some retailers are forcing people to by, so they can`t just pre order the console on it`s own.

Personally I think that many people are waiting. The 360 has filled the gap for many people a little more than they would dare to admit. As a result, they are now a little apprehensive about spending so much cash on a buggy machine that has been delayed for what seems almost infinitely.
There is also the rumour that the UK PS3 will not be 100% backwards compatible, rendering many of their PS2 games useless anyway.
I had always been a PS2 man, but changed to the 360, and now have no intention of moving back. I would assume that others feel the same way and the stores, falsely anticipating a mad rush, will have plenty of stock in stores on release day

It`s the allocation of units to Europe at launch (far greater than the 360 or Wii) combined with the `meh` attitude toward the system and its lauch lineup from some gamers, the number of PS3s that have been imported by others, and the price will no doubt put off many of the casuals.
It`ll still be a successful launch, though.

Are you looking for a more detailed answer than "because they are £450ish and only have a handful of expensive games"?!

And those handul of games are mostly awful too (with only Motorstorm coming away with any kind of major critical praise, with reviews around the 8 out of 10 mark).

Ogster IS Chris, Riggs. ;)
Funnily enough, I don`t often pre-order consoles. I got the Xbox 360 about 6 months after launch, and the Wii was an Xmas present. I was initially interested in the PS3 (as in months ago), but there`s no way I can justify £425 + on a console, not matter how good it is. Well at least not at the minute anyway. I don`t get enough time to play the 360 or the Wii!
Oh, and Ogster has probably pre-ordered 3 just in case - probably from Blockbusters like usual.
Giggity giggity!
