Page 1 of Should I buy myself a Wii?
Gaming and Consoles Forum
It was my birthday a few weeks ago and ended up with some extra cash that Im not sure what to do with so a Nintendo Wii is looking attractive now.
I currently have an Xbox 360 which I love so not sure whether it will get used though. I have never owned 2 consoles before so not sure how it would work with me. Can anyone help my decision making?
RE: Should I buy myself a Wii?
In my personal opinion the Wii is purely a `party console`.
There are some other games for it which are entertaining (like Super Mario Galaxy) - but it really comes into its element when there are a group of people and you all want to be entertained.
If you have people over regularly then its a great thing to have, otherwise, it probably wouldn`t get that much use (especially if you already have a Xbox 360).
RE: Should I buy myself a Wii?
The Wii is my only console. I didn`t buy it for "party" games, I bought it for all the other stuff! So far I am very very happy with it. I absolutely love Excite Truck, Metroid, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4 , FIFA 08....and the missus has got me Zelda for Christmas. I`m looking forward to Tomb Raider Anniversary, Smash Bros, NiGHTS, Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, No More Heroes, Okami...and there`s probably a few more we don`t even know about yet.
I reckon if any of these titles appeal to you, then the Wii is well worth a purchase. The minigame stuff is for Grandma and the adverts, the rest of the goodies are for the REAL gamers! :D
I wouldn`t swap it for any other system out there at the moment.

RE: Should I buy myself a Wii?
I hear what you`re saying Mark, but so far I`ve personally seen/played nothing on the Wii that has really impressed me. Super Mario Galaxy is ok, but isn`t grabbing my attention that much. I`ve never really been into the Zelda or Harvest Moon games etc. so perhaps that`s why.
If someone already has a Xbox 360 then I`m not sure they`re going to get that much out of buying a Wii as well.
I have a PSP, PS2, PS3 & Wii, and the Wii gets played the least (out of all of them including the PS2) - except when we have people over and Wii Sports comes out.
I`ll admit I`m a bit of a graphics whore (where the Wii really does let me down) - but that`s not the main reason I don`t use it that much.
If Sony & MS to adopt the idea of more motion sensitive controllers (the PS3 has a bit of it already) and the Wii wouldn`t survive much longer if they did. Not sure if Nintendo has patented it or not.

Oh...
...right.

Take a look at these motion controlled games for the PS2.
RE: Should I buy myself a Wii?
i`m not a fan of the ps3 motion controlled Sixaxis at all. most of the games i have played make it seem like something which is `bolted on` just for the sake of it rather than something which changes the way you play games (like on the Wii).
back to the original question, get a wii if.......... you like `social games` and often have people round for parties (it is still a great talking point a year after its release), you want to get friends/ family who arent traditionally `gamers` into joining you for some multiplayer fun, you want to play the likes of mario/zelda/metroid and other Nintendo franchises, you like the more active approach of games like wii sports/wii fit, you like original ideas for games dont fit into the standard gaming genres (e.g. cooking sims, medical sims) and if you like light gun games (with the release of the wii zapper, the wii should be swamped with them).
Dont get a wii if............you are fussy about graphics or want something to show off on a new HD tv, you want versions of some of the big AAA titles that come out on the ps3 or 360 (for example you wont be getting resident evil 5, or MGS4 on the wii), online gaming is a priority for you, the idea of brain training titles/ casual games makes you feel physically sick, you are more into hardcore action/ adventure titles (e.g. the halo`s/bioshocks/half lifes of the world), the control of the games appears too active for you, if you want to pick up decent titles in the sales or the odd cheap title (Nintendo games are rarely discounted to the level of their competitors) or you want some kind of multi media `does a bit of everything` type device.

If i hadn`t got mine for Christmas for "the kids" as a diversion for them from my 360 i`d be feeling a little flat about it by now, It`s fun but not in the all night long sheer addiction/where`s the time gone like yo get with a 360 (not to me at least) that said there`s meant to be a couple of good games out later this year for it if you like wielding a "Lightsaber" or driving a "Kart".
It`s the endless expensive, cheap looking/tacky and individual accesories that you "ideally" need to play all of these innovative games that are hard to swallow money wise, makes the 360`s ad-ons look cheap.
I`d say if you`re happy with your 360 then invest £400+ into that rather than a Wii/extra controller/games/accesories etc but if you want a party piece or regularly have small children at your place then the Wii could be right up your alley, you can always play GC games on it like me once the motion controller obsession wears off or the batteries run out!

What games have you been playing on it?

What are these expensive, cheap looking addons you need?
Assume you`re not talking about the extortionate 360 wi-fi addon.... ;-)

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..
