Page 1 of PS3 error 80010514
Gaming and Consoles Forum
Got this last night, and it`s now only very sporadically reading discs....
I`m on a fat 40gb model. Restored the PS3 to factory etc as it says on Sony website, but to no avail (I didn`t expect it to resolve it, but gotta give it a go...).
Any suggestions/solutions?
Cheers!
Strange, but I got this the other day as well after I tried to load a new copy of Gran Tourismo Prologue.
I did loads of searches online and there appears to be a difference of opinion as to what the fault is. Some say it`s the Blu-Ray drive failing and others say it`s software related.
Like you, I reset my PS3 back to factory defaults, but this had no affect on the loading of GTP - still the same error. Strangely, my PS3 plays DVD`s, Blu-Ray films, CD`s and PS2 and PS3 games, but just won`t accept GT Prologue.
My gut feeling (not that I`m an expert on all things PS3) is that it`s either the discs that were used during the production, or is software related (PS3 Software), even though I`m running the latest PS3 Software.
Like everyone else, it`s annoying that Sony haven`t heard of this error, as it`s not listed anywhere on the Playstation Website.
Sorry not much help, but I`m also interested in how I can get rid of this error message. Luckily I have a second PS3 I could try the game on, so I`ll try that at some point soon.
If your second PS3 hasn`t been updated then don`t update it and yuo`ll find out if it`s related to the latest system software.
(you can bypass the PSN check on older firmware btw)
If it`s reading all other discs fine I would check the non working disc under some kind of magnification to see if there are any surface errors.
Next, try in another console (as you mention)
Then try a couple of other working discs for a bit.
If the reflectivity of the disc is suspect then it might show errors similar to a failing laser.
If all other discs are playing ok though I`d suspect the disc itself is faulty or that latest f/w update that removed the "other OS" option, only check for that is someone who hasn`t updated the unit.

Done a little bit of reading, apparently the blu-ray player is knackered. No amount of system restoration is gonna repair it. Fortunately, it`s under warranty. Just need to find the receipt...!

Fortunately, it`s under warranty. Just need to find the receipt...!If it`s under the first year then you probably only need to ring Sony and they can tell from the serial number and manufacturing date.
If it`s under an extended warranty the details should be on file with the Retailer :)

Can`t fault CEX! Took it down this evening, without the receipt, and they not only replaced it on the spot, but upgraded to 80gb at no extra cost - `appy days!
