Page 1 of PS2 and Import Games!

Is it possible to buy games from the US and play them on the european console?

you need a mod chip. a good place to go maybe is:

The Messiah chip is the one you want - it`s the only mod that plays imports *and* doesn`t require a swap trick or boot disc to work. You just put the import game in the PS2 and it loads.
This chip is very difficult to fit though (I speak from experience!) so you may want to get it fitted professionally. The newsgroup uk.games.video.playstation.forsale is worth a look.
If you do decide to fit it yourself, visit http://www.china-messiah.com for installation diagrams.

Check out these forums for chippers

I`ve got my V5R PS2 chipped with Messiah. It plays everything I throw at it and needs NO laser adjusting. I`ve heard some V4 PS2s with dodgy laser may need laser adjustmnnet though.
This post proves yet again that there is a big demand for a console & computer forum!

stay away from the neo4, it doesnt play imports only copies of them, so if you have not got a DVD writer, the original dvd wont play .
The Neo4 is also a lot more difficult to fit (than the Messiah), and doesn`t work on the newest v5 PS2s. It`s a dog of a chip, really.

there are hybrids called neo4.1 and neo 5 that do work on v5`s now
the neo 4 might be harder to fit but at the mo is £20 cheaper and has the added bonuus of the multi region and macro vision free as well, which the messiah hasn`t and probably never will.
and the ironduke is right there is a neo chip available(shortly) for v5`s
