I don`t have to. The directors of my company a both really keen footy fans, so we`ll be watching it in the office (we brought a tv in especially!)before we start work. So we`ll either be really buzzing afterwards and ready to put loads of energy into work, or so depressed that we can`t be bothered and have to go home anyway.

On another point, do you need to skip work clayts? It seems like you`re always here - is this not your only job then?

I`m fairly lucky as I have a specialist job which means even though O`m based in a Nottingham office, no-one else relies on me at that office as I hold a "national" position (i.e. go around the country).

My boss is based in London rather than Nottingham, so I rang him when I got back on Monday (from two weeks off : hence my profusion of postings over the last fortnight !) and "advised" him I`d be in late on Friday. He promptly replied that he was doing exactly the same.

Sadly the powers to be within our organisation have banned TVs, radios and even Internet access whilst the games are on, although to be fair they have been pretty reasonable on extended lunches, odd lunch "two-hours" to accommodate the 12.30 kick-offs.

Sadly, I work in a public court, and even our chief judicial guy (not the Nottingham office manager, rather confusingly) was a bit miffed about the Friday 7.30 am kick off : I suggested to him that he use his powers to enforce a ruling that all cases that day commence at 11.30 am, rather than 10am (to allow for extra time !) : he`s still thinking about it, so I may have done my Nottingham colleagues a favour : I pointed out to the Nottingham managerial team that there`d be absolutely no male employees in much before 10 am so they may go with it !

As the poster above says, it`ll either be a day of mass celebration (and a 3pm finish and then PUBBBBBBB !!!) or total depression : either way, work, schmwork.... :-)

I think most companies have come to the conclusion that a large majority of it`s staff want to see the game, whether they are football fans or not. So the company I work for have basically just said come in when it`s over.

If they just treated it as a normal working day I think they know they`d get every excuse under the sun for not comming in, ranging from from "the dog ate my bus pass" to "Sven got an injury crisis at left back and want`s me on the next plane out"

Well, I work from home, so I may phone myself up with a bad back, or I may just take the office phone into a room with a TV, and "work" from there...

How about, "England are playing Brazil in the Quarter Final of the World Cup.......See you on Monday"!!!!!!!!!!

To be fair, our company got a brand new TV in for the WC, but the reception is terrible due to where our office is located, so most people have been going in late, finishing early, and making the time up at weekends.

Also, the main boss is a mad keen footy fan which helps!!!

I`ll probably just be going in late on Friday, but if (hopefully when) we get through, the Semi-final is newxt wednesday 12.30 kick-off, so it`ll be an early finish that day!

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!

MJ
