Lord Of The, Profit Making Fat Cats, Rings

Why do they do it ??
Release a big budget, box office success much in demand movie, then tell us that actually in november we plan to release it again with added extras !! I for one shall not part with my money.
It annoys me also when they do the same with CD releases, you know the ones... now with bonus tracks, free remix CD. Its just another way of them getting a nice little earner !!!

Amazingly I do believe that these companies main ambition is to actually make money.

Do you see the gun at the side of your head forcing you to buy the DVD? Thats because no-ones forcing you.

Yes I understand that, if I had a business I would want a profit. My disagreement is that they are already making a profit.. so how about being kind and just release it once, is it really necessary to release it now and again in November ?
And how about giving us the choice to see extended versions in the cinema ? They say no one who watch them, but people would right ?
this happens to many films, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings for example.

Fair enough, but the LoTR guys have at least been up front about it - they announced well in advance of the initial DVD`s release that there would be en extended cut coming out in Nov - I guess if you just bought the DVD and didn`t look at the web sites you wouldn`t necessarily know that, though.

Geez you think that`s bad. How about the BBC, making programmes funded by the licence fee and then they have the audacity to sell VHS/DVD `s of the very programmes we paid to make in the first place.
I`ll still buy Fawlty Towers and all of Red Dwarf when it comes out in a boxed set. :)

People in the know, know that the "extra"version is coming out in November.
But there are still going to be a lot of members of joe public who are a bit p***ed off by this.
I have bought the 2nd release of a film only to find four months later another version is released.
The way to justify this process seems to be the play on words.
First release=New to DVD BLA BLA BLA
A few months later Second release=Directors cut
A few months later=The collectors edition
Its about time somebody challenged this practice of exploitation as i feel you should be quite entitled to take the original copy back and exchange it for the new edition as you cant tell me that the production companies have just found lots of new material at each release to include with the film.?

I believe there`s a rebate voucher in the current LoTR disc for the extended version - think that applies to R1, not sure about other regions (or where I read this, so don`t quote me).

The reason why there is two release dates is because:

1. there was no way peter jackson was going to be able to finish the extended version in time for an august release date. same deal with howard shore having just finished composing for these extra scenes. remember, jackson has TT to deal with...

2. new line wanted to get the movie out asap ($$), hence the august release date.

also, the dvd authoring house producing the dvd would have needed the assets (videos) well in advance for authoring, so november release date was probably more feasible.
