RE: [VIDEO] Yellowstone

I watched 1883 first which is absolutely stunning. Dark but stunning. Then went onto 1923. I've never got onto Yellowstone but a big part of it is explained at the end of 1883.

RE: Amazon ditches Free Delivery for all orders under £10

I've gone back to buying from retailers direct again. Not as a positive decision to do this but I found Amazon didn't have what I wanted or wasn't as cheap as it was either.

RE: [VIDEO] What are you listening to now??? (Music recomendations)

Bizarrely I've got into this lot. I haven't a clue what they are singing about and the vocals do jar at times but they are tight as hell as a live band and love the energy of it all.

I'm biased as this is my son's music. Indy pop. The acoustic track is a very different jazzy take of a far dancier version on their album. First video is their most recent single.

A bit of a departure from their normal instrumentals and a whole load of fuzz too. Most tracks are normally sparkling cleans and chorus guitar with lots of odd tunings and tapping. loving their new album.

RE: Jeff Beck

Two of my favourite guitarists gone. Love this picture of Jeff and Eddie. Being a guitarist myself seeing the news that Jeff had died was a major shock. I know my musical inspirations are all getting to "an age" but it still is a real shock when this happens and I shall be blasting my BluRay of Jeff Beck Live At Ronnie Scotts and thinking that these two will hopefully be having a beer or two, sharing stories or having a jam with Mr Hendrix.

RE: Distressingly slow laptop. New RAM needed?

SSD would be my first update. I recently bought a brand new 17 inch Asus with the slowest chip known to man in it, a celeron n2040. Only 2 cores, 1TB mechanical hard drive and low running frequency. 8Gb of RAM.
Once i'd started putting stuff on it it took ages to boot. painfully slow. Can't upgrade the RAM as 8Gb is the max but I've changed the drive for a decent Samsung SSD one. Completely transformed it. Only issue I have with it is occasional dropping wifi but i've read that is a problem with the wifi card that they keeo failing to rectify with driver updates. Might swap it for another card at some point but I can't be bothered getting inside of it again as it hasn't been designed for any easy upgarde acccess.

RE: Have you had Covid yet?

All three of us that have worked Deep cleaning them from the first UK case we got in York managed to dodge it for over two years until we all succumbed i the same week. hardly surprising it was going to happen as we all are in one vehicle. The other two lads had horrendous hangover style headaches and no energy for days as their symptoms whereas mine was just like a bad cold. I had one day where i went to bed early as I felt awful but other than that a bit heavy headed, sneezing and blocked nose. No temperature or taste loss. Weirdest bit was I was testing everyday and coming back negative. The first day when I, and it happened overnight, felt massively better was the day I tested positive. Another anomaly I've noted from three families I know is that the kids, kids boyfriends/girlfriends, father have all got it yet, one of the families twice yet the mother in all three families hasn't. Weird that the mothers may be asymptomatic or just superspreaders.

RE: [VIDEO] What gig did you just go to?

Von Hertzen Brothers at The Parish in Huddersfield. Excellent venue for gigs.
Great band from Finland. Quite a varied repertoire from Folk to Rock with bits of electronica and Prog sometimes.

RE: The Sparks Brothers

It is brilliant even if you aren't a massive fan. I can also recommend one that I think was on Sky Arts about The Go Go's. Pretty enlightening too.

RE: Energy crisis

As was stated earlier the problem with wind power, and I think the huge wind farms off shore and on land near us look amazing, was shown several years ago when we actually had the last bad winter with a good week or so of snow. The one time when people really needed power not one turbine was turning for over a week. Maybe it is a phenomena of our weather here but there was absolutely no wind over this period of time.
As for Heat Pumps, then unless you are extremely well insulated you aren't going to get benefit and as for the prices here they are astronomical. I have a friend in New Zealand and they are fitting them there at no more cost than a traditional gas Central Heating System if you want one fitting?
Her reaction to the charges here was somebody is lifting our legs with those prices.
Lifting your leg so high you can get it behind your head.
Maybe we can get New Zealand suppliers and fitters here?

RE: [VIDEO] What gig did you just go to?

Saturday I got a ticket from a friend for Nick Masons Saucerful Of Secrets gig at York. The really early Floyd from the Syd Barrett era is not really my thing but saying that I really enjoyed it. Plus they played Echoes and One Of These Days which were pretty epic. Great live band including Gary Kemp of Spandau on guitar who did his best Barrett and Gilmour impressions. Impressive.
The next night is was Carl Palmer, only surviving member of ELP. Again not a band I really like anymore but it was out local town hall and I was intrigued as there no keyboards!
All the original parts are played between the guitarist and bass/chapman stick players. To cut a long story short I rally enjoyed it. The two young guys were amazing. Guitarist really connected with the crowd and having a laugh with them. Carl himself seemed very amiable and quite humble. He came stage front to introduce each track, maybe explain a bit about them and had plenty of amusing banter with the crowd. Two great nights out.

[VIDEO] RE:What are you listening to now??? (Music recomendations)

Absolutely loving the new Marillion album. The past few have been a bit hit and miss for me but this one has had rave reviews, highest chart entries all over the world for a very long time and a rarity for me as I love every track.
Especially loving this track. Very likely to be a gig highlight. The end section, it is in three parts on the album, is a bit of a tribute to the Health Service and the nurses incorporating how they managed to save a good friend who appeared to have terminal cancer and all the long hours during Covid.

RE: [VIDEO] What are you listening to now??? (Music recomendations)

I first heard the Alex Lifeson track on YouTube and immediately thought that sounds a bit like Poppy.
I posted that and the first reply was highly dismissive. Probably because she's done so many style changes from awful sugary pop at first to the last two albums which veer all over from Electronica, Growly Metal, Punk, Shoegaze with just some very clever compositions. Anyway  I posted a link to this and the following post was "He has a point!"
I think is incredibly similar?

RE: The 355

Sorry but as soon as I saw 355 I was immediately drawn to one of these. The Gibson 355 in white. Always wanted one. They unfortunately cost thousands if you can find one.
Anyway wrong 355. I'll get my coat................

Loving Poppy's new album Flux. She's changed style yet again. Quite grungy and shoegazer stuff on the album although in fairness no two tracks are alike and there is pure pop to punk.

RE: [VIDEO] What gig did you just go to?

Saw Genesis too at Leeds. I'd seen them several times before including the 82 reunion. I didn't really want to see this tour as being a massive fan of Phil as a drummer I didn't want to see him like that. But at the last minute I was offered a ticket near the front so had to go. Have to say I like all eras of their music and loved every second of the show. During the reunion show Phil played drums on every track bar Turn It On Again. On Monday night I'd swear Nic plays more in Phil's style than Chester ever did. During some of the instrumental sections I completely forgot it wasn't Phil playing. Sad to see the later dates have been postponed as I know a couple of friends that were supposed to be going to see them. Then saw Steve Hackett on Thursday doing the Seconds Out album in whole. That was excellent too.

RE: [VIDEO] What gig did you just go to?

Been using a pair of the Elacin ER20 for years. Good quality, really do bring the volume down a bit and tame that harsh top end you get in some venues from cymbals. Doesn't dull the sound just takes the piercing edge off.

Sure I read somewhere that your renewal quote from January will not be allowed to be higher, using the same conditions, than those offered to new customers?
Always bugged me that they did this.
