DVD player thru Video??

orac (Competent) posted this on Monday, 4th December 2000, 10:10

I only have one scart socket on my TV and 2 on my panasonic video

will I be able to put the dvd player thru the video or will it not work due to macrovision?

If i cannot put it thru the video, what do you suggest? a scart splitter (turn the TVs one socket into 2/3).

Please Help

Get your player cracked and have Macrovision disabled (either through Chipping or via a handset key combination) and then run it through your video.

It works Ok through mine until you try to record - and remember that an NTSC picture won`t go through your VCR unless it is compatable with NTSC which is unlikely I`m afraid.

(for info my DVD player is an unchiped Pionneer 515 and VCR is a JVC HR-J935)

There are various ways to get aroudn this - as you say you could get a scart splitter / switch box or you could get a modulator which would convert your video signal into RF (the same frequencies that normal TV works at) - you can egt these from the normal places you hear about on this forum - techtronics.com , switch-it-on.co.uk , keene.co.uk , maplin.co.uk , and many others (I`m bound to of forgotten someone who will post here as well)

Thanks

I have a panasonic video which is ntsc compatible - so you think that it will run thru it without a problem?

At the moment its either the wharfedale 750s or Philips 711 i am going for.

"I have a panasonic video which is ntsc compatible "
if it records NTSC (you would of paid a few £££ more if it was) then it is NTSC compatable - if it can just play NTSC tapes then thats different I believe.
If it doesn`t then you would have to buy a format converter which are not cheap - so you may be best off with a scart switch of some kind - don`t forget to buy one with more than two ports if you are going to add anything else to it in the future - e.g. PS2 , satallite or something else which uses SCART

I suppose it depends on a lot of things - if you can get an electronic one (switch or splitter) - if not then it the signal would have to be shared between two devices and if your TV or VCR needs a lot of signal then it may effect it a bit.

I use a splitter to join my projector to my VCR and DVD to VCD and projector and it works fine.
