What was your first computer ?

bear (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 11th December 2002, 13:54

Mine was a Atari 800XL with a cassette loader, built like a tank, then an Atari ST WOW! and 1meg ( upgradeable to 4meg for a £100.) and a floppy drive and poor build quality, then a £45.00 for a second hand 486 PC and thats when it all started to get a bit tedious...

An Acorn Electron (eh?) whose games came on a standard tape.

My mate had a ZX81 which came with a text only game of something called Football Manager. You just had to sit and watch the scores come up…

I`m probably showing my age here but if it can be called a computer by todays standards i had a sinclair ZX81.
This was the cause of many late nights in my youth trying to type in a program from a magazine only to have it not work or for the "ram pack" to wobble and crash the computer.

Oh happy days ;o)

"Oi, walk gently past that power pack, it`s got a dodgy connectio.....too late...

My brother actually had a ZX80, which was mainly white with one of those `pressure sensitive` keypads that was basically a flat piece of plastic that you had to apply about 2000psi just to get the damn `enter` key to work.

Plus, it didn`t even work unless you bought an extra ram pack.

as for the 16k ram pack, it stayed on fine if you used about 15 rubber bands.

Mine was a BBC Micro. Bloody expensive, but it had a proper keyboard and the original version of *ELITE* - which made it worthwhile.

I hate to say it but I used to laugh at the Spectrum - it`s only now that I realise what a little marvel it really was!

ZX81 here too!

Anyone buy the so called cure for the rampack wobble? It was a bit of velcro that stuck it to the computer. :)
