Just been looking at the list and cannot believe that Peter Jackson has not been nominated for best director. The Two Towers is up for Best film so at least thats something, but whats wrong with the people who are voting. When I`ve watched the making of the triology and listened to his commentary you can see that he`s put years of work into these films, and they are classics. Will Chicago have the same impact in 20 years time ?
I often wonder if there is a secret agenda......

This is the oscars. Of course there is
Unfortunately as good a The Two Towers is, it is not Oscar material, just have a look through the list of past winners.
Regardless of Peter Jackson`s achievement (and I`m a huge fan), he is destined not to get any Hollywood glory from the three movies.
He can be satisfied that he has made two masterpieces so far and taken the box office by storm.
just like george lucas with star wars.
The oscars is american upperclass shyte!
that said DD Lewis for best actor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well I think the Oscars are pap, but its interesting how you can predict the nominees. Although the winners are *somtimes* a surprise.
I think the best Actor category is the hardest. As much as I loved DD Lewis in GONY, I also thought Adrien Brody was astounding in The Pianist. Also, Jack Nicolson in About Schmidt. I wouldn`t like to see Caine win it because the film was dull. But I`ve still to see Adaptation which looks ace!
I hope Kidman wins for best Actress because she deserved it last year for Moulin Rouge, but I`ve not seen The Hours yet.
I want Christopher Walken to win best sup. Actor.
I want Eminem to win best song.
I hope John Williams get the Oscar for Catch Me If You Can.
Star Wars AOTC for best visual effects or LOTR (they both had their strong/weak points, but Spider-Man didn`t deserve a nomination even though I loved the film. BTW, where was Minority Report???)
Best Director: Roman Polanski (Scorsese doesn`t deserve it for GONY)
The fact that Star Wars was snubbed for both sound and sound editing shows the Academy still hates George Lucas for going his own way.
RE: Oscar Nominations Pah !
Personally, I couldn`t really give a flying f*ck what "The Academy" thinks!
I love movies but the Oscars really are dull as hell!
The year `Forrest f*cking Gump` beat `Pulp Fiction` just sealed it for me!
YAWN!!!!!!!!!!

But didn`t you just love the close up on Samuel L Jackson when he lost out in the best supporting actor category.
For once a genuine reaction "Oh F**k!"
RE: Oscar Nominations Pah !
It was nice to see John C. Reilly get a nomination, although I suspect he hasn`t really got a prayer against Paul Newman and Christopher Walken. `Chicago` overburdened, as was `The Two Towers`, but considering last years farce, there isn`t too much to get upset about this time round, although I am frankly baffled at the omission of `City of God` and `Talk to Her` from the best foreign film category, even though Almodovar is nominated for the later in two other major categories! I was also pleased at the bounty scooped by `The Pianist`, a masterpeice which, despite its greatness, I don`t think I ever want to see again.

RE: Oscar Nominations Pah !
Blame Spain for the absence of Talk to Her in Foreign Language category. Each country puts forward just 1 film to represent it in that category (see the recent controversy about The Warrior as the UK entry) and Spain chose to snub Almodovar in favour of another film. The director nomination is probably a result of the Academys bewilderment at not seeing it on their list for foreign language (nomination should be Peter Jacksons).
The absence of City of God, however, is a real shocker. An amazing film.
disagree with the oscar nominations more and more every year.
They are now as relavant to the average movie fan as the MTV movie awards. Except with less vin diesel.
