About this user: Region 1 News Editor, Columnist and Reviewer for DVD Reviewer for over two and a half years.

My current home cinema includes a Optoma H50 DLP projector, a Sony DTS-ES 6.1/Dolby Digital 6.1 EX discrete, amplifer, 6 speakers plus subwoofer, a Pioneer DV-545 DVD player, Xbox, PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 and of course my trusty SNES.

My DVD collection is growing faster than I can watch it, and my reviews on this site only account for about 50% of my discs...which might suggest that it`s time to stop buying and start watching!

My other interests include squandering money on a variety of useless computing equipment on eBay and supporting Dundee United, where I am a season ticket holder.

In the real world away from the internet, I am an administrator in local government, looking after schools in my Council area, with a team of 6 staff.

10 years have passed since I was last here!

Hi to those of you who are still around, I'm back, 10 years older, 10 years greyer and have enjoyed reading some of my old content, and looking forward to reading a lot of the new stuff.

One question - how do I update my profile information, it's horribly out of date!

RE: Anyone know if this multi region code works for the Toshiba SD-240E

RE: Where is Region 1 News after May 17th?

That said glitch in the matrix being my new full-time job which has been rather more full-time than I had anticipated - 18 hours a day - hence me not having time to do it.

That has now been rectified and I have had to regretfully pass the reins over to others...

RE: Classic Splinter Cell On Xbox Spelling Mistake

Quote:
Cant cost much to change a spelling mistake.

Oh but it does, say they got 100,000 of those covers printed, would cost a fortune to reprint, and more importantly repackage them, plus it`s unlikely that Microsoft (or whoever) are holding much stock, you`ll probably find that Game, Amazon, Play and the other big retailers have most of it in their warehouses...

Very shoddy though, can`t believe nobody noticed that before it was printed, have they never heard of proof reading?

Went to see the mountaineering docudrama Touching the Void tonight, didn`t know what to expect and was rewarded with a thoroughly gripping movie - HIGHLY recommended!

RE: Help! needed with USB 2port PCI card on WIN 98

When I used to work in PC World, I sold several of these, they are ONLY for Win98SE and above, and will not function correctly on Win98 original release.

RE: PC World - how easy to get a refund?

It`s 28 days from the date of receipt - if the person who served you did it properly he should have "bought back" the original camera then "sold you the new one", resulting in a new receipt - technically, if it`s within 28 days of the new receipt you should be ok.

RE: PC World - how easy to get a refund?

I`ll cut through the bullsh1t above...

PC World had a 28 day return policy as long as the goods are as new and contain all packaging and accessories. You are entitled to a refund or an exchange.

Over 28 days you can only take back faulty goods.

Trust me, I work there :)

RE: A "stealth tax" on motorists ?

Personally, if I get caught speeding, I`ll be paying the speeding fine, but they can stick the "victim tax" up their ar5e, as there won`t be one.

I`ll buy myslef a couple of pint in sympathy instead.

f off Blair with your stealth taxes

RE: belkin wireless network cards

Just to re-iterate, two PCs can network peer-peer with just wireless cards, you DO NOT need an access point unless you have more than two PCs/Devices connected to the wireless network.

RE: Epson C44 Plus Printer £34.99 @ Currys .

Epson C44s are NOT good printers...trust me I also work in national PC chain and the amount of returns we get is phenomenal...

Not as many as the C42 granted, we had a stack floor to ceiling of faulty units...cheap crap.

RE: Project Gotham Racing 2

PGR2 is VERY good, but not as good as the first game for the hardcore racing game fan...it`s just TOO easy - basically I`m up to the Super Car cup on silver medals without having to retry anything.

In the first game, there were some cone challenges for example that took HOURS AND HOURS to master, part of the fun, there is no challenge so far in PGR2.

I also do not like the way that you can now only use cars from a certain class, in the original game, being able to go back to the first cups with the Ferrari F50 and do a combo round two whole laps was a challenge, now there`s little incentive to go back and replay.

Also, it`s way too easy to get the decent cars - I`ve about 80 Kudos tokens, so each cup I unlock, I instanly get the best car, where`s the fun in that? In the first game, battling to get those last few Kudos to unlock the next car was the challenge - here it`s just race, win, race, win.

A great driving game don`t get me wrong, but the first is much more challenging.

RE: Tears Of The Sun and The Hard Word...

Tears of the Sun is vomit inducing American propaganda to show Americans that it is worthwhile having forces in nasty parts of the world and that the number of soldiers dying is worth it in the scheme of things.

OK, the film had its moments, but pass the sick bucket. Far too much long dwelling slow-mo shots of suffering etc. Bruce Willis should know better.

RE: Things that are annoying in supermarkets

Parent and child spaces
Inconvenience is something you should think about before having a child. Because I chose not to have any at this stage in my life, why should I have to walk further? If shopping with a child is a hassle, don`t take the child or don`t have one.

Old People
Old people should only be allowed in between 1000 and 1200 so they don`t interfere with my shopping after work

Prams/Pushchairs
Prams/pushchairs only be allowed in between 1000 and 1200 so they don`t interfere with my shopping after work

Express checkouts
W***ers with more than 10 items and the cashier doesn`t make them go somewhere else or give them a public dressing down. W***ers paying with a card at an express checkout.

Taking too long to pack
By the time you have to pay, you should have all your shopping packed and ready to go, so I don`t have to wait for mine to be scanned while you`re faffling around

People with switch cards who arse about paying by cheque
And therefore hold me up

CD/DVD anti-theft devices
Which incompetent staff can`t get off CDs/DVDs therefore making you wait ten minutes while they have to break it off

One-way systems
Supermarkets should have one-way systems to reduce congestion, and should not be a free-for-all

Women who meet in the aisle
And a: don`t move their trolleys out of the way and b: tut at you when you either push or knock their trolleys out of the way

The magazine stand
Is for buying magazines and is not alibrary for stingy bastards to read magazines they won`t buy, getting in my way when I want to get the latest copy of ...

I could go one forever

Taken from our Site news section for those of you who don`t read it...

Quote:
From Tuesday 19th August until Wednesday 27th August inclusive, we will be shutting down the Region 2 news section as some of us take a well earned (that`s our story and we are sticking to it) holiday to the place of little electrical power. Region 1 will carry on as normal, until its belated summer break a little later in the year.

RE: DUEL - is this release delayed again ?

Going to be covering this in R1 news again shortly but basically the ones that were shipped got through before the recall, which is due to Spielberg`s approval of the transfer.

No doubt ebayers will be making some cash...

RE: Photography

I did one earlier this year at the local college.

It depends what you actually want - most of the college courses seem to do very little actual photography, skipping quickly over the important technical stuff liek aperture/exposure etc, and concentrate on developing and printing.

If you want to learn how to take photos, perhaps one of the courses in the back of the many photo magazines would be a better idea.

I`ve also thought about a local camera club for picking up tips.

As for equipment, it very much depends on what you want to spend, how serous you might be and what you want to do.

If for example, you want to do film photography, things get expensive quickly, although if you buy one of the major brand SLR cameras, accessories can then be used if you upgrade the camera body at a later date.

Digital SLR is horribly expensive, but a good normal digital camera will give excellent results - it is worth getting one with a decent lense though.

The best best is to go along to a course, or the local college before you buy a camera, have a look at people`s equipment, ask questions, then decide which direction you want to head.

He might be out by the end of the week if he doesn`t sack his press spokesman and with any luck chief spin doctor Campbell.

For number 10 to public slander Dr Kelly after his death is utterly unacceptable behaviour.
