Slow IE loading!

skirpy (Elite) posted this on Sunday, 27th April 2003, 19:00

I have cable access and my downloads and pages load very quick, but when just starting IE it takes about 5/6 seconds to appear, also when it has loaded, i may start typing an address into the address bar, just say i am typing in..."www.ntlworld.com" after i have finished typing it in, i look at my address bar and it looks something like this... "ntlwowww.rld.com"

This is a small annoyance i have been puting up with for a while, any ideas?

I have done a spyware scan and it has made no difference.

Cheers!

is the home page set to a website or to about:blank

If it`s set to a webpage change it to about about:blank.

Have you got any third party toolbars installed (ie. Yahoo, Alexa) as they can slow down the start up.

I don`t know what version of windows you`re using, but I have the same problem. Here is how I sort it:

Press Ctrl, Alt and Delete once, and look for something called Mddb (or something along that lines). Close this and everything should be fine.

I don`t know what it is, but it works for me. I have Windows 98.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how wrong it is ;-)

Thanks for the quick replies.

My PC is a Pentium 4
1.7ghz
512 ram
Windows XP

There does not seem to be anything else that i dont know about running in the background.

I could set my homepage to Blank but this has just started happening in the last couple of months again, and has been happening in the past.....i would like to know what is causing it.

Use the repair function on IE and if that doesn`t work try unistalling and reinstalling IE

Try clearing your cache, and check the size of your cache setting. Temptation is if your computer has a large hard drive you bump up the size of your cache - it shouldn`t really need to be more than 20MB
