RE: locked out of oritron 600

Mine does that sometimes, upluging it from the mains then pluging it back has always worked for me.

RE:

My local Virgin store had the new ones today, had a quick look at the back cover of The Birds and it said it was 4:3

RE: Slow IE loading!

is the home page set to a website or to about:blank

If it`s set to a webpage change it to about about:blank.

Have you got any third party toolbars installed (ie. Yahoo, Alexa) as they can slow down the start up.

RE: Can a Gamecube be attached via SVHS socket?

I know that some old itv digital boxes allowed RGB pass through.

I am using RGB Scart, my GC is plugged in to my Pace ITV digital box that is plugged in to my Sony dvd player that is plugged in to my tv,

Only thing I have to do is make sure my itv digital box is on because if it is not it passes through composite rather than RGB. (my old itv digital box didn`t need to be left on for RGB pass through but I can`t remember which make it was)

RE: Can a Gamecube be attached via SVHS socket?

RGB and S-Video signals can conflict with some tvs (thats why a lot of tvs have separate scart sockets, one for rgb and the rest for s-video)

Rather than providing an option to switch between rgb and s-video Nintendo has decided to disable S-video here (they have 2 video boards one for pal and one for ntsc, as it`s cheaper than including a combined board) as we can make use of the superior rgb scart connection and in the us/japan the rgb is disabled as they don`t have rgb scart (they get progressive component as a bonus via the digital connector, uk doesn`t yet as the progressive PAL format standard didn`t exist when the gc was originally released)

RE: Gamecube SCART Leads

Not all GameCube RGB Scart cables actually support RGB.

The RGB Scart cable (with 2 audio leads) that Game sells does support RGB, but suffers from a slight cross hatching patten which is very noticable on solid colours and made worse in 60Hz mode.

The official RGB cable doesn`t suffer from these faults, shame it`s not cheap.

RE: Bladerunner Special Edition?

The 3 disc SE (work print, directors cut, new final cut) is in the works but is currently held up by Warners legal department.

RE: bargains from Amazon.ca

For the UK customs charges are:

3.5% Import Duty
17.5% VAT
+ admin fee (£3.95 for Royal Mail, £1.85 for DHL and upto £15 for other carriers)

RE: Transformers Season 1 DVD. Which is better R1 or R2?

R1 was remastered BUT they went a bit over the top and introduced new visual problems.

RE: Why do DVD`s seem to be much cheaper than films on VHS????

VHS costs $2.40 to replicate

DVD costs $0.75 to replicate (dual layer is an extra $0.40)

So if they made 1 million copies of a dvd (dual layer) it would save them $1.25 million over the same amount of VHS versions.

RE: Frasier - will it ever arrive on DVD?

R1 Frasier Season 1 is due on 20th May, along with Cheers Season 1, and followed by Charlies Angels Season 1 the week after.

RE: Anybody got an address for Sony/WB?

Columbia Tristar own the UK rights. They originally released a best of Dawsons` Creek disc, but due to poor sales no other release was made.

You can contact them at kcabdeeF_KUEHTC[at]moc.ynos.eps

RE: Ad-Aware 6 has been unleashed.

adtech, ...[at]kaertseulb, ...[at]kcilcelbuod & ...[at]xelpaidem

they are all cookies from ad companies, you get the cookie from ad images that on webpages.

RE: Do all DVD disks contain Macrovision

Not all discs have macrovision

Some companies don`t bother with macrovision with cheap releases.

Some companies don`t bother with macrovision with major (high quantity) releases so they don`t have to pay macrovision the $0.05 per disc license fee. ($50,000 per 1 million discs)

Harry Potter is an example of a major release that doesn`t have macrovision to save on costs. In the UK 1.25 million Harry Potters discs were sold on the day of release.

Macrovision is pointless on dvd, as it only prevents analogue copying, with the dvd format macrovision is turned on or off using a single bit flag (the actual video in not macrovision encoded). The dvd player adds a macrovision signal if it detects the bit flag (thats who many region free players bypass macrovision, they just ignore the bit flag)

RE: Nightmare On Elm Street Region 1 Boxset (8 Discs)

R2 is missing Freddy`s Dead and Wes Craven`s New Nightmare. It also loses the Nightmare Series Encyclopedia that is in the R1 version.

RE: Why are Fox being so slow with The Simpsons DVD releases?

From the last fox HTF chat:

<DaveAnderson> Hello Peter! Thank you much for coming. Any chance Fox will put the pedal
to the metal in terms of the pacing on Simpsons releases? These are just taking too darn long! :)
Also, when is Malcolm: S2 coming? Love the show - got into it thanks to the DVD set.

<peterstaddon> Simpsons does take a long time to develop, but you have to realise that matt and
jim are very involved in the productions and they don`t have a lot of free time with getting the show
out. Season 3 will probably be in May 2003! I know, we would like to get it out earlier as well, but
it is shaping up to have some really cool material on it. As for Malcom, we`ll wait and see how
season 1 sells - looking really good so far - and aim to get another season out in 6 months time.
Something like that.

and/

<Brian_Harnish> Peter - Thanks for coming! Is there any chance that you guys can speed
up the Simpsons releases? If it will compromise the quality of the DVDs, I`d rather have the
release schedule as is. Any possibilities of speeding up the releases...similar to the Star Trek
releases?

<peterstaddon> I mentioned earlier that the issue with The Simpsons is that there are so
many people who are involved with the DVD, and they are all incredibly busy working on the
show for the network which has to take priority. We would all like to see the releases out
quicker, but not as you point out if it hurts the quality. The next release is due out in May
2003 and there is already some very cool stuff on the discs that will make season 3 much better.

RE: Buffy question

R1 Season 1 is meant to have slighty better picture quality
R1 Season 2 has some additional interviews

R1 Season 3 got a bit messed up, it has additional extras, but is missing the Previously On intros and the first 2 episodes have the wrong title music. Avoid R2 UK as it`s is cut. R4 is uncut.

RE: Price of a wholesale DVD

they are distributor sales, the wholesaler gives the discount (normally applies to all stores), some companies decide to have sales, other companies that decide not to have a sale make a big profit.

RE: monsters inc R1 audio and scren

Is it the Canadian version as I think that version loses the fullscreen and sound effects track (I think dvd compare list it on their site but it`s not available at the moment as they have exceeded their allowed bandwidth)

RE: Price of a wholesale DVD

RRP £19.99 dvds are normally just over £14 wholesale (during distributor sales wholesale price is lower)

Some of the cheapo £5 dvds have a wholesale price of around £3.50

RE: Whats the point in different Region discs????

They can`t stop you buying multiregion players/discs because if they tried they would be breaking international trade laws.

They can stop companies selling players that bypass CSS as it violates the dvd license agreement (violates the dvd trademark). But players that use CSS but just lie about what region they are (most multi region players) don`t break the agreement and so are legal.

Technically region coding violates international trade laws (I seem to remember the WTO confirmed this), but nothing can be done about it until a government requests action.

RE: ID VERIFIED EZYDVD AND FBO

It`s a new requirement from Aus Post.

Anything due for export has to have the destination verified before they allow export.

RE: Family Guy Season 1 & 2 - Episodes missing

Fox UK have used some weird episode order for their discs.

Sounds like the R1 set will have all the Season 1 and 2 episodes in original broadcast order and will also have extras.

RE: PC has gone all screwy! Help

FTL.dll is adware/spyware (normally installed by apps like iMesh), it`s well known for causing problems with pcs.

RE: WARNING:- DO NOT BUY REGION 1 BACK TO THE FUTURE ***UPDATE***

From DVD Review.co.uk
"Sorry seems to be the hardest word for Universal Studios Home Video in the US of A. The Region 1 version of the Back To The Future trilogy, the most eagerly awaited back catalogue DVD not touched by the hand of George Lucas, is faulty say some consumers.

Shots in Part II and III of the time-travelling classic are misframed, according to complaints. A spokesman for USHV tells us consumers both inside and outside America can exchange their R1 discs for repressed versions from late February 2003.

The hotline number to call is (001) 888 703-0010. The courteous folk at the other end will tell you to post the offending DVDs, not the packaging, to this address:

Back To The Future DVD Return,
PO Box 224468,
Dallas,
Texas, 75260
USA

Make sure you include your name and full address for the replacements to be sent to. Best wait until late February just in case there's a change of plan."

Sounds like Universal US will replace BBTF R1 for non-US residents.

RE: Splash customers

If it`s stuck on processing email them (normally takes 7days to get a reply), it normally means that they are no longer able to get the title from their suppliers.

I had this problem in the middle of december, I emailed them, they replyed 7 days later saying that they can`t get hold of the title anymore (which was true as it had been made an HMV exclusive) and they said they would issue a refund, next day they issued the refund.

Be nice in the emails, if you are insulting/angry etc they won`t bother replying.

RE: StreetsOnline Sale started

Italian Job is £6.99 at HMV (not available online)

RE: what`s going on here with Woolworths?

they are all the same company (the kingfisher group), but pricing/offers etc is independant.

Woolworths also charge more than the other 2 for shipping
