Page 1 of Those Bl00dy ANTS!!!!
General Forum
Ok, for the last 2 weeks I have had an ant infestation in my kitchen.
I found a nest and a hole behind the fridge where some were coming out, I squirted a bottle of bleach down there with boiling water - thought that had got the little blighters.
Then last night around the kitchen were more and more, I`m pretty sure there must be a 2nd nest somewhere...
I laid traps but they are s***e - has anyone got any suggestions for finally ridding my kitchen of ants? What poisons are there?
I have 2 cats so preferably one that wont poison them too!
Help!!
Haven`t tried this myself, but I heard one good way to kill the buggers is to give them alcohol poisoning. Get sugar, mix with some strong spirit, preferably cheap - you don`t want to waste the good stuff and leave it by the hole. Not enough of that to poison your cats.

Or you could try the tried and tested method of standing on every single one of the little f***ers. This method requires a lot of patience though ;-)

You know what this situation reminds me of?

I use spray adhesive to get rid of the red ants in my garden , dig up the nest and spray the little wt[at]st with the glue this stops them from running off to return later and if I am felling bored I sometimes drop a match onto the glue and torch the nest but you can`t do this in your kitchen.

Well, technically you could ;-)

We used to have a major problem with ants in our conservatory. We tried most things, including those stupid japanese ant traps, totally useless. (they`re not that clever after all !!)
Eventually found that Johnson Wax "RAID" ant and cockroach killer spray did the job over a period of time. It`s available almost everywhere, supermarkets included, it`s in a bright red can. Once the area is sprayed it remains effective for some months.
The trick is to renew the spray every time the little devils appear, eventually they don`t return. We also have a cat and it came to no harm.
Hope this helps.
We had a really bad infestation in our kitchen for about four years. There were thousands, even the flying ones in late summer. We tried everything; the powers, sprays, gells, borax etc. but nothing worked.
I worked out they were in the cavity wall and were coming in everywhere they found a gap.
In frustration I decided to get drastic. I drilled small holes about one metre apart in the brick joints outside and injected creasote into the cavity (the blighters can`t take creasote!). This trapped them in one place and I was able to remove a brick and destroy the nest!
They are now in may lawn. About 40 ant hills in a space the size of a tennis court.
You may win a battle but you`ll never win the war!
