Mountain bike recommendations!!!

Ascomdog (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 8th July 2003, 18:30

I have a mountain bike which I use daily to get to & from work. In the last few months I have been doing alot of off-road riding, but now realise that this bike is only sufficient for the daily road use, but not for regular off-road use.

I am looking to get a good bike with front shocks (not bothered about rear suspension), which needs to be strong yet fairly lightweight. I`m looking to pay around £500.

Any help with certain makes & models would be greatly appreciated.

Have I look at the Carrera Fury in Halfords £549.99 XC bike it has aluminum frame rox shox front forks shimano deore cranks, rear mech, front mech and brake leavers, 27 speed. Very good value you can always upgrade the part to suit your needs could do with some better pedals.

Personally, I got a Saracen Vice from my local Halfords. 21 Shimano gears, front and back shocks, and it comes in a fariety of metallic paints. £160

Stanz had any problems with the bottom bracket on your bike yet have had to replace quite a few. They are not a sealed unit as in the Fury and do seam to fail if used quite hard, make sure you keep your cranks tight apart from that it is a good bike for that price.
