Connecting DVD player with other systems!!
Please help, i`ve got a Panasonic RV-40 and I would like to know your advice on linking it up with my other systems.
Right as well as the DVD player (which has 2 scart sockets), i`ve got a Ondigital box (with 2 scarts, 1 for tv and 1 for the video), a video player (with 1 scart). The TV is 28inch Panasonic with 2 scart sockets, but the AV2 socket is a video socket or something like that. Basically if I plug the DVD into tv scart 2 the picture is terrible!!
Could I link the DVD player via a s-video to scart lead??
Any help would be gratefully appreciated as it`s a pain in the arse at the moment keep taking leads out and putting others in!!
RE: Connecting DVD player with other systems!!
Simple answer - use AV1 socket for your DVD player (I presume that is the RGB capable one, RGB being better than S-VID in most people`s book), and use AV2 for your OnDigital to TV : OK it means no RGB on your OnDigital picture, but to be honest that seems to suck the colour out of the picture a little.
If the only thing you`re worrying about is `backing up` DVDs onto VHS (ahem) then you can always run a SCART from the DVD to the VCR and unplug the one from the On box.
So :
SCART from DVD to TV AV1 (assuming that is RGB)
SCART from ON viddy out to VCR AV1
SCART from ON TV out to TV AV2
This is the same set up as me and works perfectly fine : you can tape analogue telly when watching On/DVD. You can tape On whilst watching DVD. You can even watch analogue TV and tape On at the same time.
The TV will default to VCR (on AV2) if you press PLAY (even with the Onbox on), but not if you press RECORD. The TV will default to On when you turn on the digibox. The DVD will override both and force the telly onto AV1.
(The only difference twixt yours and mine is that my AV2 is the RGB one, and AV1 is the S-Vid one)
Hope this helps (except I have a crappy Sanyo widescreen and not a Panny - bah!)
