Bad ads

What`s your least favourite ad?

That GAP one with Madonna and Missy Elliott is driving me mad at the moment - makes me want to go out and petrol bomb the nearest GAP, rather than buy their jeans. Ads like that are put together by teams of highly paid, well-educated and probably quite experienced people - but what were they thinking? Madonna looks like a 40 something mum who`s trying too hard while Missy Elliot appears to be dressed in a white, middle class, 80s TV producer`s idea of what a rap star should wear. She could have just walked off the set of "Diff`rent Strokes".

And that inane song: "Everybody comes to Hollywood, Wanna make it in the neighbourhood...." and then Elliot drivelling about how complete strangers stop her in the "hood " just to ask her where she got her high street jeans from...and that so obviously fake "friendly banter" between them that plays as the ad fades out...

On the other hand, that "Mum-can-we-have-a-rabbit" headache pill advert still makes me chuckle every time I see it - must have cost less than the catering bill for the GAP atrocity.

Virgin Radio (amongst others) are currently playing a series of ads for Nivea Soft Moisturising Cream (or something like that) which feature various scenarios involving some smug young bimbo who manages to pathetically exact revenge on people who are giving her a bad day. She is inspired to do this by applying said skin-softening product to her arms.

I could spend ages going on about how much I hate these adverts!!! It wouldn`t be so bad but they`re on every 5 minutes! >:(

That shampoo ad with Ben Affleck has me reaching for the knives every time I see it, and the Norton Finance ad with the smug git walking a tightrope.

Virgin Radio drove me nuts just playing the same songs over and over and over......I`ve switched back to Xfm now - its got a lot better than the atrocity it was a year ago.

As for the ads, those ocean finance ones where they wheel out the pikies to give their testimonials on how good the company are make me want to throw bricks at the screen.

most tv ads wind me up. have a tendency to tape a lot of tv, due to long working hours, and then video searching through. or i just irritate my wife by channel hopping.

the local radio station around oxford keeps playing these bloo*y irritating cold seal ads, nothing makes me change channels or put on a tape like those ads.

Being the democracy that we are, Virgin is the radio station which usually ends up on the office radio. They`ve moved on from playing one song over and over - it`s now two songs, being "Really Growing On Me" and "I Believe In A Thing Called Love", both by The Darkness. I was contemplating buying their album, but not any more, as I`ve already had enough!

Incidentally, a while ago Toploader had a real pop at Virgin for wrecking their career as they would play "Dancing In The Moonlight" incessantly for months on end.
