I like the original for the fun film it is, but it is not a classic and is over-rated in my very humble opinion. ;)

I like the remake as well. It was fun, and sometimes that is all you need.

Not really. Only the final third of the original film is any good, why people regard it so highly is beyond me.

It is an absolute classic!!! The minis racing around Italy are fantastic, the plot is first rate, and it has more energy, and has more classic lines than the entire 6 episodes of star wars.

well it is more of a cult classic. so it can get away with not being utterly brilliant, altho i think it is myself.

aslo, it being very british probably has somethign to do with it. same reason The Full Monty is lauded by the UK public. it`s awful, but it`s british, so it must be at least half decent

The original film is a classic. It has a cracking script, good characters and great action. Brilliant stuff.
