Picture format in cinemas?

gingerone (Elite) posted this on Monday, 22nd September 2003, 12:37

After reading a thread which mentioned different pitch on PAL and NTSC films I got to wondering whether cinemas change between PAL and NTSC depending on the country, or is there a set format for cinema films?
Anyone know?

I guess not. :)

No, they don`t, cinema projectors run at 24fps everywhere.

PAL and NTSC is a television standard thing, the speed up only occurs when converting from 24fps to a PAL video signal.

Actually perhaps not as daft as the question sounds. I seem to remember that there were video cinema`s in the late 60s early seventys. Usually smaller ones. I`m sure they still exist.
