Dishwashers - recommendations?

RichardH (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 30th September 2003, 08:53

We`ve had a Zanussi dishwasher for about 3 years now, and the wheels on the baskets have worn, so need replacing. How about this for insanity?

4 wheels for top basket cost £36.66 (in fact the basket has 8 wheels, but you only use 4 at a time). A new top basket INCLUDING wheels, costs £38.99.

8 wheels for the bottom basket costs £73.28, yet a bottom basket WITH WHEELS costs £29.33.

How do they justify that?

A new cutlery basket is £15 or so, so to get the dishwasher back in top condition, we`re talking about a good £90 once delivery is included.

So, should I just buy a new dishwasher? Seems really wasteful, but my wife`s hated this dishy since new (not buying from the planet Zanussi again). A bit more money, and we have a new dishwasher with full warranty. Any recommendations? We`re in a hard water area, if that makes any odds....

Not only is my Bosch good the after sales service is good right from purchase to delivery (a bit pricey as well £600.00)to use had it just under a year though! So hard to judge long term
bought mine from John Lewis and got an extra couple of years warranty thrown in as well.

Our Hotpoint has been going for about 8 years now. It`s needed a couple of minor repairs, but is generally very reliable. There`s no sign of the wheels wearing out anyway!

if you`re in a hard water area, just make sure you keep the salt level topped up.

I was told by a dishwasher repair man that only buy a top brand ie Bosch & similar. Hotpoint, Service & so on are not. There`s one thing buying fridges & washing machines etc from those makes, but dishwashers are best avoided.

5` 10", blonde, 36-28-36.

Failing that, I`ve got a Nef and it`s great. My brother`s got a Bosch and they seem identical inside.
Get a good one.

We`ve had a "slimline" Bosch for about 4 years now. Slimline because I had to fit into a standard size Magnet kitchen cupboard. No problems with it. :)

Hi everyone, I`ve been visiting the sight on an intermittent basis for a while and always enjoyed it. Many thanks to all the contributors. This is my first posting so please be gentle with me. As far as dishwashers are concerned I`ve had a Bosch for about 3 years and no problems whatsover. Famous last words! By the way does anyone know if the Marx Brothers are available on DVD.

Thanks for the responses - I`d kind of already set my sights on a Bosch, as we have a Bosch washing machine, and it`s been going strong for a good 7 years, with a family of 5+ feeding it. So it`s good to know the dishwashers are OK too!

I got a Bosch last year and have done in the past without any probems. Unfrotunately I`ll have to get the engineer out cause our dishwasher has become very lnoisey when the water gets pumped out - and its supposed to be/was one of the quietest machines in their range.

Still recommend Bosch all the time though!
