Why is this called X2: Xmen united on R1 but just X2 on R2?

The marketing people at Fox didn`t think Americans would know what X2 was, so they added the unofficial sub-title "X-Men United". Now, X2 was marketed as "X-Men 2" in the UK, a much more sensible title. Although both the UK and US versions of the film are identicle, and the title during the opening credits still appears as "X2" and nothing else.

So it was just a marketing title. :)

Our US cousins do tend to be on the thick side, you would have thought that the poster itself would have made it apparent that it was X-Men2 in conjunction with the title.

But then again I visited a town in Ontario on the border with Minnesota (twice) a few years back, they had a water tower with the Canadian Maple Leaf facing over the river into the US & the name of the town facing towards the interior & main road out of town.

My comment at the time was that the Yanks could only understand information in picture format, while anyone travelling in from Manitoba, could see where they were, so maybe they cant even understand things in picture format either.

It may be apocryphal (spelling?) but apparently the american producer who Ken Brannagh went to with the Henry V script thought it was a sequel and was quite offended that Brannagh hadn`t offered him Henrys 1 to 4 :)

That`s a variation on the "Madness of King George III" gag. (It`s known as "The Madness of King George" in the US because American audiences might think it`s a sequel). ;)
