Page 1 of EMPIRE Magazine - Is it the best?

I noticed a few people bemoaning the fact that their Empire Mag was delayed due to the postal strike. I get a copy bought out to me when fortunate enough to have visitors as I rank it as the best film mag. Does anyone disagree? If so what is better?

Related to another thread does anyone living outside the UK subscribe to EMPIRE? If so any problems?

Also what other websites (apart from Empire Online) do people use to get film info reviews etc.

I subscribe to both Empire and Total Film and usually agree with review from one or the other. They`re both well written, funny and the Abridged Scripts in TF are hilarious.

As for websites, I`d recommend Counting Down, JoBlo and Dark Horizons.

Expect the worst and you won`t be disappointed!

I got Empire for years and loved it. Stopped getting it when I left work to go back to uni, the internet now makes review type mags kind of defunct, but I still read the occassional issue.

I actually prefer Total Film; I really like the layout and style of writing. Wasn`t a big fan of Empire`s change of look a year or so back, so stopped getting it then. Used to get both of them, now I just have Total Film.

Have to agree with Ben. Total Film is my pick of the pops. Its funny, well written and not at all patronising to the uninitiated, which means the Mrs can flick through it on the loo (my bathroom library is quite vast ;) )

I prefer Hotdog, and get that every month, because they have really cool articles about classic movies.

I used to get Empire, Total Film, and SFX, and another film magazine, but since the internet I haven`t bothered with any of them.

I get Total Film and Empire, and love them both. I have had TF for longer (since March 2000), but started getting the latter in January 2003 - subscribed to both, but if I had to choose; I don`t know, Empire may just swing it.

I really couldn`t justify buying both, being that they both cover the same kind of news. Ok, articles may differ but in there`s not much to choose between them in that respect; I just enjoy Total Film more. I think that Empire can look a little bland in it`s layout in compared to TF, especially since their redesign (I did used to buy both before). Plus you can go and get all the up to date news and reviews on the Empire website anyway!

When does Hot-dog come out? I`ve wanted to buy it before, but they always seem to be behind with their stories and reviews when compared to Empire and TF.

Empire has the best writers and photographers and is held in high regard by film-makers. Total Film, Hotdog et al are just pretenders to its crown.

Empire, holds back reviews for releases of films.
Which look like they may be popular and get big box office amonts.
Then they turn out to be low ratings.
Underworld for example.
Backhanders galore, go on with Empire magazine.

And its not due to release dates of magazines being met, etc.
they are well ahead of release of some films.
