Wonderful, wonderful home insurance...
Woke up this morning, nice and cheery, went down to the garage to get my bike out. No bike. Some pikey thieving shytes decided to go shopping in our garage block last night, took my bike, broke into another 4 garages and I think they got someones motorbike. I shall be complaining bitterly to the council about the inadequate locking mechanisms on their garage doors (all it takes is a screwdriver in the right place)
Anyhoo, the wife, a few years ago, insisted we take out home contents insurance, even if we do only live in a poxy little council flat. I always thought it was a minor inconvenience, taking a bit of cash out of our account once a month for something we`ll never use..
Well, long story short, after a couple of phone calls, I`ve got a Halford`s voucher for £200 (was £250, £50 excess taken off) on it`s way to me! Not bad considering the actual cost of the bike + accessories was only £180.
reeee-sult!

Who did you take out the insurance with?

Abbey national. Very good service, 4 hours between first contact and the cheque being sent out. (but it was a quite uncomplicated claim)
One thing that did strike me as odd is that apart from an incident number given to me by Kent Police, there`s basically no proof whatsoever that the bike existed in the first place! If I was of a dubious nature, I could exploit the hell out of that.
RE: Wonderful, wonderful home insurance...
I was with Direct Line for years...never made a claim, paid them thousands in premiums. Then, my lads bike got stolen from the back garden at a friends house. They wouldn`t pay because it didn`t have a lock. Like a fool I was honest enough to say it wasn`t locked.
Time to join the hords of people who spill wine on their carpets when they need a new one etc etc....honesty and loyalty didn`t work for me. >:(
Needless to say, I moved my motor and house insurance somewhere else so refusing a £300 claim has lost them over £600 a year in premiums! Maths does not seem to be their strong point either.
