The former Scotland manager Ally MacLeod died this morning, aged 72.
Although he will always be remembered for managing Scotland at Argentina `78 (he was the last Scotland manager to get a whole country behind the team!), he was also a successful club manager with Ayr, Aberdeen and Motherwell.
RIP Ally
Goan yerself Ally!
RIP
Were on the march wie` Ally`s army
Were goin` tae the Argentine
And we`ll really shake them up
When we win the World Cup
Cos Scotland are the greatest football team.
Remember Wee Archie`s goal against Holland ?. That to me is a fitting epitaph to the man .
My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this sad time and for Ally, you will be sadly missed.
Choagy :(
Those were the days my friends.................sad news. :(
Marty :(
Get real! you Scotish fans treated that man like s***,I can still see him sitting on that bench in Argentiner the poor bastard, the abuse he took from some supporters was a disgrace, he must have aged ten years in that competition he honestly believed that Scotland could win the world cup and so did the fans, and when it all went pear shape they turned on him.
He deserved better. :( :(
Oscar.
Oscar.
Both my son and I were fortunate enough to actually meet Ally on a few occasions at football courses and also prior to football games and as such can comment on how I felt about the man.
Ally was a gentleman, no more and no less. I admired him and so did many tens of thousands of Scotland supporters.
The way he was treated by some of the media, some players and the support was nothing short of disgraceful, but thats Fitba` as they say.
This topic was posted by someone who thought it would be nice to convey peoples sadness at his passing and TBH if you cannot post anything other than a jibe at the people who have posted then maybe you should think before you reply.

Well said, Choagy!
I did indeed post this thread so others could express their sadness at Ally`s passing.
For the record, I agreed with Ally when he said Scotland could win the World Cup and I NEVER turned on him! To this day I always thought he was a vastly underated manager. People forget that it was he who started the Aberdeen revolution NOT Alex Ferguson! It`s just a pity that, after Argentina `78, he never got the chance to manage a big club because I`m convinced he would have been a tremendous success.
As I said before, RIP Ally.
I stand by what I say, sorry the truth is hard to swallow.

Like I said treated like s***. :( :(
Oscar.
Oscar, I hope you`re not an England fan, for as we all know, the English are behind their team and manager 100% - all the time!
Football is a mean old game: from zero to hero and back to to zero in no time at all.
Allow people to pass on their condolences and calm down.
