AHHHHHH someone please tell me what Macrovision is?????????????
I have a Logix3000 DVD does this have Macrovision on/off hacks, whatever that means?
Sorry to be thick but there is so much stuff to learn!
Chris
Macrovision is coding on your dvd player that prevents recording from dvd to vhs. Disabling (turning off) macrovision will enable you to copy dvds to vhs and lend to people without dvd player or if you rent a dvd, you might wanna copy it. Copies are much better than normal tape.
Funny, and there`s me thinking it was just to ensure you had a personal back up copy in case your DVD player went doolalley - LOL!!!!!
A-hem...

Not quite right Dicanio, it`s coding on the disc recognised by the player to prevent piracy of DVD`s/Movies.
However, Macro also has a negative effect on a number of projection TV setups, and for those in my position who need to route the DVD signal through a VCR.
Making the copies you suggest is illegal...as hinted at by our former TSO pal Clayts above! lol

well if you want to get picky jimbo its first encoded on the disc, then picked up by the player, buts its the vcr that picks it up to prevent piracy.
Any way the Logix 3000 and Macrovision, it basicly a scan player, if you have the right firmware the mac can be switched of. look up the scan hacks and give them a go.

::ahem:: to be picky old chap, it`s the Macro signal tricks the video into distorting the picture, not the video itself..
otherwise those Projection TVs would be unnafected ;o)
You been over to that thread on Hardware yet? Have the Sony crowd? ::grin::

so why then do VCR`s built before Macro was invented record video with the Macrovision in them?

I had a CRT TV that was affected by the macrovision.
You are all wrong! Macrovision ( I spit when I use the name ) is a evil inflicted upon us by greedy bas***rds who want us to pay over the odds for films but still not have the right to make a copy for ourselfs, why dont they give us a VHS copy at the same time we buy a DVD, we pay enough!
PS It messes with the AGC settings, turns them up and down, I tell you its evil.

What the hell is all this? We are not scientist and dont need to know the technical details, just tell in plain english what it does. Looks like a war breaking out over who knows more or something
