Bodge-a-job Blunkett trialling ID cards from Monday
Here we go, wasting more money on stupid things we don`t need, giving the government more power than it should have over us:

I can`t believe anyone is buying this bulls*** about ID cards preventing terrorism.
The US government knew the presence of the 9/11 terrorists before their attack, and they were in the country legally.
Spain has compulsory ID cards, yet that didn`t stop the terrorist attack in Madrid.
Anyone who believes that people won`t be able to fake an ID card is kidding themselves. And anyone who believes someone who carries a valid ID card cannot be a terrorist is also kidding themselves.
And to top it all off, they want us to pay for the priviledge?

I wont pay to carry an I.D. Card. If they make it compulsory then they will have to supply it.

It is frightening!
Just think, if you do not show your ID card then you may be arrested. So if you lose your ID card you cannot risk leaving home to go to the post office because if you get stopped you cannot produce an ID card and you may get arrested! Catch 22!
It is a way of making a criminal out of normal, law abiding people and we should not have them!
Having to have driving licences and insurance does not stop all of the people featured in the press from driving whilst disqualified. It wont stop people committing crimes or acts of terror either.
It is also a stealth tax. It could raise £2.1bn if all 60 million people need to pay £35 for them! That is a lot of money from the economy and into the treasury. It is approximately a 1% tax rise!

Christ, all this whining!
If there`s really any chance at all it might help in any way against terrorism or more general crime its worth a try. I`ll have one.

As soon as the technology is in use, someone in the criminal fraternity will start working on a way to hack it. (We`re all using a website which promotes the hacking, albeit legal, of commercial entertainment products, dont forget.)
Besides which, why are we being asked to pay for it? Surely the scheme should pay for itself by completely eradicating benefits fraud, shouldn`t it?

Well Richmach I hope you never lose yours or forget it then because you may then be arrested, get a criminal record and lose your job.
There are still crimes in France and Italy and they have ID cards.

It`s not the cards per se, but the biometric data they`ll carry. The proposals are for finger prints/Iris or retinal scans and ultimately DNA data.
It`s just a way to build national databases that the police can use in any criminal case - not just terrorism.
As a law abiding citizen, I`m quite ambivalent about it - it seems that resistance is useless...but once they have your data you only have to be in the wrong place at the wrong time to be fitted up for something because a corrupt plod can`t be bothered or has been bribed to get the real culprit off the hook.
Worrying really....... :/ :(

Do you have one the new driving licenses? If so, do you carry that at all times? If not you may be arrested, get a criminal record and lose your job. By law, you must carry that whenever you drive. Do you know anyone who got charged for not carrying it in this country?
There is no way on earth that they will ever give a criminal record to someone for forgetting/losing their card, and to think otherwise is just ridiculous. At best you would get a producer, at worst they would take you down to the nick to confirm your identity.

Thought that you only had to hold(i.e.posess) a valid driver`s license to drive - not keep it with you when you do go out for a cruise. If you get stopped by plod and didn`t have documentation on you, the law provides that you would need to produce relevant documentation at the local cop shop within seven days or they send the boys round ;)
Anyone know the real gen on this?
