Page 1 of Opinions On the MICO A980
General Forum
Being my first flirt into the DVD market I was very impressed by the picture quality from this low price machine. The ability to disable macrovision is brilliant and the sound produced is excellent. That was until mine knackered itself up!!!
Just a couple of questions that hopefully other MICO owners can answer.
- How long does it take for a disc to load?
- Mine took about 45 seconds before I got anything from the machine.
- While a movie is playing can you hear something vibrating from within the machine?
- I got this annoying vibration sound for about 3/4 of the film, witha few whirrs! thrown in, and then it would fall silent for the last 1/4.
- Did the disc drawer not open correctly for the first few times of operation?
- I thought mine was going to eat my Lethal Weapon 4 disc, cos the drawer woldn`t open for about five minutes.
Cheers
I have only had my player about a week but have not had any real problems.
It did lock up when I made a VCD but was ok after I switched off then on.
45 seconds does seem more than mine.
No bad noises from mine just the drive starting up.
I have one from the new batch which has RGB outputs and was delivered region free (I can`t access the hack menu )
Have you tried Mp3 Playback?
No other problems
The hack menu is still there on the new batch even though they ship as region/macro free.
Remove disk 7,7,select and up pops the menu The region is set to 13 and the macro is set to one (on the second page).
Only problem I`ve seen with the player is that the tarzan collectors edition R2 disk 2 tends to lock up.
RE: Opinions On the MICO A980
Unbeatable came through and picked up my faulty DVD today even though the fuel crisis is still going strong.
Took `em a while though. Faxed them on Fri, e-mailed on Sat, phoned on Mon only to get an answer machine. They contacted me mid afternoon Tuesday and Shelly came through for me.
I`ll be out to get a Samsung 709 if they have no replacements

Apparently the Mico has great MP3 playback. But no mention of MiniDVD (prob not tested!)
Ignore the price tag of £100. Too good to be true.

Actually What DVD say`s it`s MP3 playback is a novelty that is only about casette tape quality.:P

When outputting my Mico to my hi-fi you can`t tell the difference between a CD and an Mp3 with a bit rate of 128kbps and above!
Mico`s great and I`m richer!!

I used to buy the What **** magazines (actually looked at them in WHSmith) before I bought anything.
I`d always pick out the best budget. Usually nominated machine of the year`, or that sort of thing.
Only to find how disappointing it was, after I laid out the dosh!
So I bought another machine.
Anyone see a pattern here? Buy two machines. Make the industry richer!
What DVD? More like What the F**k.
Another rant - Sorry!
NEVER PAY ATTENTION TO THESE PAID REVIEWERS. LISTEN TO THE BUYERS & NOT THE TRADE!

"What Video & TV" which I have subscribed to for many years said
"The Mico 980`s Mp3 playback performance doesn`t disappoint unlike the Shinco DVD-180"
I have found there reviews to be very good ( I have bought a TV/Camcorder/VCR and now DVD which they have given a Best Buy) and have not been disappointed.
Carrot - Any more news about your Azuda?
