We`re starting to run out of British eccentrics again. God forbid telly should be full of smug, superior little gobsh*tes like Vernon Kay. Now Fred Dibnah was a good, old-fashioned British eccentric. One of the best in fact - blunt talking, genuinely enthusiastic about stuff like engineering. If he wasn`t restoring traction engines, he was trying to dig a coal mine under his house. I`ll miss him.

Me too. I found his programmes genuinely interesting, and his down-to-earth way of explaining stuff like engineering and architecture, while showing his obvious enthusiasm for his subject, was very refreshing. Sad news.

Very sad news indeed :( , i bet theres not another person today who could take a chimney down by lighting a fire... his love of steam and all thing antiquated was amazing, i for one really enjoyed watching him on tv, and showing and ex[plaining practically how things worked...

Sadly, skilled tradesmen like him are a dying breed (no pun intended), nobody these days seems to want a job where they either get cold, wet, or dirty, or any manual work, the kids just seem to want to sit behind a desk and get paid for working 9-5 monday to Friday. (Thats if they can get out of bed in the morning to be bothered to look for a job?)

A very sad loss of a great British character. :(

Hes probably already started restoring traction engines in Steam Heaven.

If Mac users are "more intelligent than the average computer user," why do they need an operating system designed for complete idiots?

Well I wish he had built the new house I am now living in, people who pay the thousands they do for new properties that are made from such s*** materials is beyond me.

Anyway Fred you will now be able to have a chat with Brunell,Stevenson and the rest of the lads :)

Sadly missed, a great man. :(
