Cable digital hopefully sky digital.
Just got cable digital installed on sunday, and i have broke down in tears today.
Cable digital does not support dolby pro logic tv`s.I now know this after a phone call.Yet cable analogue does.
So i am in the process of cancelling.
Does anybody know if sky digital supports dolby pro logic.
Please please help me jed the ned
Dunno what they told you on the phone, Jed, but *any* stereo source, including digital cable, will support Dolby Pro Logic if the material is appropriately encoded. Just hook up your cable decoder to your TV via a SCART lead, and there you have it.
You`re not using an RF lead, are you?
Mike
In actual fact, AFAIK, none of the digital platforms actually offer the real McCoy ProLogic, but offer the next best thing - MPEG2, which to all extent and purpose is very similar - ie offers surround sound (it`s exactly the same audio source present on SVCDs).
So, technically ntl/Telewest are correct to say that it doesn`t carry ProLogic, but they`re talking out of their rear orifices by saying that it won`t work on a ProLogic TV.
Certainly in Sky and onDigital, the MPEG2 signal will be reproduced as surround sound. In fact, I thought analogue cable was the one source that didn`t.
Mike is correct - hook up with a SCART and away ye go.....
RE: Cable digital hopefully sky digital.
Yep your right.Just pulled it apart and found out that the telewest installation ENGINEER ,(could`nt spell it now he is it) connected the cable through the video and just used the rf lead to the tv.
I thought it looked a bit dodgy.
thanx anyway jed the ned
RE: Cable digital hopefully sky digital.
Sorry to bother you again but when i record off digital should i be able to hear surround sound during playback.
I have tried to no success.
I also gave recording a dvd a try using scart from dvd straight to video and the picture looked ok but the sound was poor.Is this normal as i thought macrovision distorted picture.
will probably have something else to ask soon so keep tuned

Recording off cable should be easy enough - hook up a SCART lead from digibox VIDEO OUT to either of the VCR`s SCART sockets, and depending on which one you use, tell the VCR to record off the input
ie say you use VCR AV1, then when you record, ensure you tell your video to record the signal coming in on AV1. You will probably find on your VCR remote a button marked INPUT or LINE - just select that (eg on my Sanyo by pressing INPUT the VCR shows L1 in the display, which equates to AV1, and thus records the picture and surround sound coming from my onDigital box, down the SCART lead and into the AV1 socket of the VCR).
By the sound of it, your engineer is not aware of the benefits of SCART leads which is a shocking state of affairs - I bet he used the RF leads to tune in the VCR to a new channel just for the digibox....well, RF leads don`t carry stereo sound, just plain old vanilla mono, hence the lack of surround sound.
As for running your DVD thru your VCR - if you can`t disable Macrovision on your player then you will get interference, both video and audio.
You should only need one SCART socket on your TV for both VCR and your digibox, and keep the other one on the TV (preferably the RGB enabled one) for your DVD player - always try to use the most direct route, especially for DVD (unless you intend making, ahem, back up copies).
Thus, your final configuration should be something like this :
SCART from digibox VCR out to VCR SCART in
SCART from digibox TV out to non-RGB TV SCART in (usually AV2)
SCART from DVD direct to RGB TV SCART in (usually AV1)
You should have one SCART free on your VCR (assuming it has two, that is) when all of this is done.
Now, when you power ON your digibox, it will force the TV into one of the SCART assisted channels (usually AV2 if you don`t use the RGB-enabled one for digital TV), and when you press PLAY on your VCR it will override the digibox picture. Similarly, if you power ON your DVD player it will override both digibox and VCR.
Hope this all makes sense.
Oh, and remember you still need to run the old style RF lead from the digibox to the VCR, and from the VCR to the TV to ensure you retain the old analogue TV pictures - that way you can still watch analogue TV whilst you tape something off the digibox.

Clayts,
Dolby Pro Logic is completely independent of the transmission medium. As long as you have a stereo signal - whether it`s vinyl, audio cassette, CD, NICAM stereo, MPEG2, DD 2.0 or wax cylinder - any analogue Surround encoding will be preserved and decoded by a Pro Logic decoder.
You`re getting your Dolby Pro-Logic confused with your Dolby Digital, methinks :-)
You`re right of course - never answer technical questions when you`re half asleep.
Of course it`s true - listened to a CD in glorious surround sound this evening, albeit with the aid of one of the Yamaha DSPA5`s `DISCO` setting....hmmm....
RE: Cable digital hopefully sky digital.
Sodding aol this is the 2nd time i have wrote this.
Thank you clayts my old friend.
I have tried recording from digital, picture ok but sound sounds a bit tinny
echoe but does have surround. Is this normal.
Anyway time to buy another bloody scart cable cos ENGINEER did`nt connect by scart only rf lead.
And just another thought, this forum among other`s has cost me a bloody fortune over the last two month`s,as i have been on the sick and had nothing else todo. Now i have a 2 new player`s, disks from all corners of the world, and scart cables now i have to go back to work to pay the cc off damn you .
But i have had fun thank you jed the ned
Oh and cable digital
