Die Hard The Ultimate Collection

This is out July 10th Cant wait for it.
DIE HARD
Apparently its a six disc set. Not sure how they worked that one out as
Die Hard 5 star Collection is 2 disc and Die hard 2 and 3 special editions are one discs i think. not quite sure some places say 1 each some say 2.
I dont see the point in two discs when there arent that many extras on it so they could have put it all on 1 disc. Look at how much was on the patriot. all on 1 disc, excellent transfer and the film was over 2hr 30mins long. I think they added the extra discs just so they can charge more. PAy up look we are giving u 6 whole discs etc.
The box looks great.
DV-Depot.com have already listed it as have Star DVDs. For some reason. play247 dont seem to have a clue about this release. neither do dvdbo

Am I right in thinking that this box set will arrive on R2 with Die Hard With A Vengeance still butchered by the censors?
It`s a good thing Fox had the sense to release Die Hard 2 Widescreen versions with the full uncut 18 rather than the pan and scan 15 before the new guidlines came in.

dont know nothing of the r2 release. My guess is you`ll probably have to wait till xmas or new year before it gets release. The July 10th Collection is Region 1. To tell u the truth, im not to bothered about cuts. Its usually 2-3 secs more blood or something that gives it a higher rating.

But I thought that when they cut DH3 they took huge chunks out of it, not little bits of violence. I thought they actually totally ruined it and made it unwatchable. Or something.

Aye.

It`s Unlikely that R2 will get the Trilogy Boxset as Fox only own the rights to Die Hard 1 and 2.

The rights to Die Hard 3 are owned by Buena Vista

Fox managed to get Die Hard 1 and 2 rated uncut at a higher rating before the BBFC brought in their new no dual ratings policy.

This new policy means that if Buena Vista submitted Die Hard 3 to the BBFC to get an uncut 18 rating it would be rejected.

But many films that were butchered during the Ferman regime (notably The Evil Dead) have been resubmitted to the BBFC in recent years and passed uncut. The same could no doubt be done with DH3, if Buena Vista were so inclined.

I suspect the "no dual ratings" policy was a brainwave of Ferman`s which no longer applies to Duval and Whittam-Smith`s "new and cuddly" BBFC.

And dicanio, I am bothered about cuts (and so should you be) if it`s possible to get an uncut version, quite possibly cheaper, elsewhere. It`s the principle, you know? If I was watching it on BBC1 I probably wouldn`t be bothered, but when I`m paying a sizeable chunk of my disposable income to own a DVD I really want a definitive, unabridged version.

Still, it`s up to you. Yippie kie-ay, melon funster!

The "no dual ratings" policy is new, it started in about February this year and has already started affecting films.

The from the BBFC website:

"02/04/2001 Secondary Classification and Reclassification"

Following the introduction of the secondary classification scheme, on an initial trial basis, we now propose to make some amendments to the procedure in the light of that experience. The secondary process cannot be purely automatic where the work was first classified on video before July 1st 1994 (when the 12 category was introduced). The question may then arise as to whether the original classification is still appropriate. However, reclassification will not be considered (other than in the most extreme cases which will make themselves known in the normal course of events) for works originally classified after 1st July 1994. Works classified prior to that date might be appropriate for reclassification.

The BBFC has formulated a set of guidelines that ensure fair and consistent treatment of the works:

Identical versions of works must be passed at the same category - that is , if the ratio, soundtrack and length are identical, with no material added or taken away . If a technical comparison shows that the tapes are in all respects (other than logo or similar ) identical, they must have the same category.

Works passed after 1/7/1994 should be given the same category whether they are identical or not. It may be possible in some circumstances to pass a different version at a different category if the company has ensured that all the previously classified versions have been removed from distribution but these cases will always be referred for a senior management decision.

Non-identical versions of works passed before 1/7/1994 - versions that are dubbed, subtitled, different in ratio, different length - should generally be passed at the same category unless the old category is no longer reasonable or defensible. Any proposed reclassification under this test, except for pre -1994 15s being reduced to 12, must be referred for a senior management decision.

The company will be informed immediately of our intention to examine the work with the expectation of reclassification. The fee charged will be the same as for secondary classification i.e., it will not be increased.
