I remember him more from the early and middle years of his career.
Always came across as a fundamentally decent bloke.
The fact my musical taste seemed to parallel his quite closely was always a plus.
There's an awful lot of my generation that will have a soft spot for the man.

RIP. He was one of the DJ's on Radio Caroline in the days of the pirate ship broadcasts.
