Page 1 of PLAY 247 - EXTRA CHARGES?

I have recently ordered the Die Hard box set from Play 247 for £39.99 (region 1) Can anybody tell me if there will be customs charges because the cost is above £17.99?

Their prices (of discs over £18) already include VAT and Customs Duty, they send R1 discs direct from Canada so they could be taxed,
If the package gets taxed by customs you just contact Play, supply them with the details and they refund the amount you were taxed.

I have ordered more than than £18 in one go from them and haven`t been charged any extra for them (maybe is doesn`t count as its only the Channel Islands). They did come seperately though, but i wouldn`t worry. My suggestion would be to email them if u are that concerned. Hope this helps!!!

I live in Denmark and a friend of mine bought some DVD`s from Play 247 and he got an extra bill where he had to pay import taxes. I emailed Play 247 about it and here is what the answered:

"Unfortunatley the Danish authorities may charge tax on items over £14.99. We do advise you not to order titles above this price as we are unable to refund the costs. Any problems please let us know."

It may be similar in other countries.

Any purchase over £18 is liable for import duty and vat, unless it is clearly marked as a gift. In which case the taxable threshold rises to £36.

If you are importing from an "honest" supplier, they will reduce the local selling price by the local "vat" amount, as it is not chargable on exports.

Are you sure that the price have to be above £17.99 for the DVDs to be taxed?

As you can see in my previous post, Play 247 says that it`s items above £14.99.

Another thing, I have in the past ordered items from amazon.co.uk where the price was above £18.00 and there was no import taxes on those items. Can anyone explain this?

The £18 limit is for the UK

Denmark will have it`s own limit.

Yes, for region 1 DVD over £18 you should pay import duties. But play 24/7 send their reion 1 discs from Jersey I believe, therefore the customs people don`t have a good grub around in your parcel.

As to whether play 24/7 pick up the import duty when they import, Ihave no idea :-)

No supplier will offer to pick up import duties at the "other end".

Principally because they may not be static, i.e. they may rise or fall, or not be charged at all. They may also be reclassified into a different catagory if the local Customs decide that they are not pulling in enough revenue.

Thats why all suppliers state (or should state) that they are not responsible for local import duties, sales tax or other such charges.
