PAYPAL Question...Service Good, Secure or Bad (I`m considering signing up).

sultan (Competent) posted this on Friday, 11th March 2005, 15:59

Guys,

I`m thinking up of signing to PAYPAL, purely for eBay buying (and perhaps, selling).

Some eBay sellers are strong believers in this form of payment and would not consider payment in anything else. However, type PAYPAL into google and there are a couple of websites devoted to PAYPAL which are anti-PAYPAL. This has left me with a feeling that perhaps, this is not a good idea.

Your thoughts and experiences please.

Sultan

for buying, at least, ive never had a problem with paypal.

You win an auction, click pay, sign in to paypal and voila. You register your credit or debit card and paypal withdraw that amount from your bank. Its just like switching it. Its probably too simple actually and doesnt make it feel like your actually spending money.......

If you keep your password safe and your account constantly at zero you shouldnt have any problems. And dont buy from auctions stating `x% surcharge for customers paying with paypal`, because its against ebays t`s & c`s.

I`ve never had a problem with them. If you`re receiving money (as a seller) then you`ve got their charges to contend with, though.

Ebay OWN Paypal.....thats why nearly every advert says "Seller PREFERS paypal". Its really EBAY prefers you pay that way.

Paypal are great at Transferring your Money. For buying items its very handy. No doubt.

Theres so much stuff too read on their site when things go wrong. It can be a pain in the arts. I havent updated my credit card with them over a bad seller situation. they refused emails from a seller who admitted his goods were not as described, and they then wouldnt take this Info from him, as evidence. - and mucked me about on it.

As i said. great for "instant" transactions.- which is all in their favour.

One last thing. DO NOT give them your OWN bank account details if you decide to open an account. set up a seperate account at your bank for paypal. Any problems, and they can freeze your account. -which you agree to -if i recall- when you sign up.

Preypal.....I know i did.

By that, I take it that you mean they can freeze my paypal account (and thus not transfer funds into/out of my bank account). Otherwise, how can they freeze my bank account as the banks should surely decide if my bank account has to be frozen or not.

There was a guy in the states who they froze his normal account, -he had given his Normal account number too paypal. How they can do this i dont know...I think someone had posted that its in Paypal s user smallprint/agreement. Until the problem was sorted, he couldnt take any money fron his Normal bank account. there stuff over on the ebay community forums about paypal and acoounts frozen.

As long as you dont use your Normal account. You should be fine. Buying stuff i had No problem whatsoever. I`d like to use them again., i just wont.

Paypal is great for the following reasons

1.pay some one instantly
2.get payed by someone instantly
3.no ten day turnaroungd for cheques
4.buyer protection upto £500
5.password protected.

You can pay anyone with a paypal account regardless whether it is an ebay transaction. The only warning I would give is to change your password regulary and watch for spoof emails regarding passwords etc (not many for paypal but ive had loads of spoof ebay emails)

I won a laserdisc one tuesday afternoon 2pm payed via paypal, seller sent that day, I recieved the next day at 9am! Got to be besyt payment method.

Signed up for paypal and it`s definetly the best way to pay, will not buy from sellers who stick a paypal charge on. :)
