Scams

Snaps (Elite) posted this on Monday, 1st July 2024, 20:05

A text.
Thanking me for my payment of £42.50 to Transport for London, with receipt number.
No clickable link on it and I've made no such payment.
I'm am at a loss to understand how but I'm guessing it's an attempted scam.

May be worth pinning this for anyone else to post scam attempts.

You'll probably get a follow-on text within a few days apologising for the error - 'click this link to arrange a refund'

Long-cons are becoming more common.

Just in case you are worried, I have some magic beans, if you want to swap a cow?

Interesting one today. Received a text from 'Bupa' earlier thanking me for requesting a quote, and that they'd be in touch soon.

Sure enough, the phone rang about 5 minutes later, from the same number, but my handy Samsung always gives me a heads-up in these situations.

Thing is, I always google phone numbers I don't recognise which usually brings up results on whocallsme etc, and this one is surprisingly legit it would seem, in that it's officially linked with Bupa, but a lot of the comments were complaining that their constant calling borders on harrassment.

But that's by-the-by anyway. I didn't ask them for a quote for anything ( I was driving a van to Maidstone at the time), and judging by their marketing methods, I probably never will

My life is a lot better since I moved onto fast broadband this month, as I have now lost my landline phone and hence all the scam call centre calls from Mumbai that goes with it. I just now use my mobile phone only.

PS...You can buy what is called an internet phone to plug into the broadband router, but that's more cost a month for phone use, and why bother as I have mobile.

We still have a landline for one reason only.
A mum in law who's idea of a mobile is switch it on to use it then turn it off again. In fairness she's getting a bit better now she's getting used to WhatsApp but she'll still only phone the house.
Hence it's know as the Patphone.
